Borja Baston’s deadline night move to Aston Villa brought his Swansea City career to a close at a final cost of £2,214,285 per goal.
The Spanish striker moved on a free transfer in order for the Swans to cease paying his high wages on a contract that was due to run out in the summer.
Borja moved for £15.5m from Atletico Madrid in 2016, but scored just seven goals in 41 appearances during his time at the Liberty Stadium.
That works out at over £2m per goal – or £378,000 per match and although he played 21 games under manager Steve Cooper this season, his last goal was back in September.
That was during his most prolific spell in a Swansea shirt, following loan spells back in Spain at Malaga and Alaves.
During his brief golden era at the start of this season, the former Atletico Madrid player hit five goals in his first five games and six goals in nine.
It didn’t last, though, and his move to Villa to assist in their campaign to avoid relegation from the Premier League left supporters from both clubs puzzled.
On Friday evening, all the paperwork for Borja’s move was complete, with the Spaniard undergoing a medical at the Premier League side’s training ground.
The 27-year-old’s initial deal will see him remain at Villa until the end of the season, with a chance to extend his stay if he is a success.
A Swansea statement read: “Everybody at Swansea City thanks Borja and Tom (Carroll) for their services to the club, and wish them well in their careers.”
Villa had already bolstered their striking options with the signing of Mbwana Samatta from Genk, but with Wesley out for the rest of the season, manager Dean Smith now has an additional alternative.
Before returning to Swansea for this campaign, Borja had not featured for Swansea in the previous two seasons as he went on loan to Malaga and then Alaves.
