Neil Warnock believes his Cardiff City team have reached the point of no return and that if they lose at Brighton on Tuesday they will be heading for relegation. That is not to say Warnock thinks the fight has left his squad – far from it – but with games fast running out and the five point gap between themselves and safety still there, realism has come to the fore. “From their point of view it’s probably all over if they beat us,” admitted Warnock after the club’s latest controversial defeat, a 2-0 loss at Burnley.
Sean Dyche will not relax even if Burnley beat Cardiff City today, with his side still precariously placed in the Premier League. What had looked a potential shoot-out for survival now appears a chance for the Clarets to secure their top-flight status after back-to-back wins over Wolves and Bournemouth. That moved Burnley eight points ahead of the Bluebirds in the final relegation spot, and victory would extend the gap to 11 with only five games left for Neil Warnock’s side.
Neil Warnock is in hot water with the FA for suggesting their referees are biased, rather than just incompetent. The Cardiff City manager has been charged by the Football Association following post-match comments made after Cardiff’s defeat to Chelsea. But it is understood the claims by Warnock that the Premier League have the “worst officials in the world” are not those over which he could be punished.
Neil Warnock’s Bluebirds still have hopes of avoiding the drop. They are arguably among six, maybe seven teams, still in danger. Realistically, though, Burnley, Southampton and Brighton are the teams Cardiff will try to chase down. All three could falter if Warnock’s men can earn the wins needed. Huddersfield Town (14 points) and Fulham (17) […]
Neil Warnock has admitted the odds are against Cardiff City surviving in the Premier League – but has vowed to keep fighting. Warnock saw his team lose to a top six team for the second time inside four days as they were beaten 2-0 at Manchester City, who went back to the top of the table. Goals from Kevin de Bruyne and Leroy Sane in the first-half did not reflect the extent of the champions’ dominance but Cardiff showed much more resilience than they did in the first half of the campaign when up against the top teams.
Former Wales international, Cardiff City and Swansea City midfielder Barrie Hole has died. He was 76. The Swansea-born player began his career with the Bluebirds making more than 200 appearances following his debut in February 1960 as a 17-year-old.
Watford 0, Cardiff City 0 Former West Brom and Bangor City goalkeeper Matthew Hall was in magnificent form for Cardiff City in their under-23 fixture against Watford away. West Midlands-born Hall, 21, saved a penalty during the goalless draw at Wingate and Finchley FC. Hall made a series of big saves and kept out a […]
Sheffield Wednesday 1, Cardiff City 0 The young Bluebirds slipped to a damaging defeat in their Professional Development Under-18 League match against Sheffield Wednesday at Cardiff International Sports Campus. Teenage midfield player Liam Shaw scored Wednesday’s winner after 72 minutes and Cardiff City slipped from top spot in the PDL South table to second. Ipswich […]
Neil Warnock admits he was left devastated, defeated and demoralised by Cardiff City’s controversial defeat to Chelsea – but has vowed the club can still achieve a miraculous escape from relegation. The Bluebirds manager looked weary an hour after the final whistle, by which time the raw anger provoked by the 2-1 home defeat has started to subside. In its place Warnock reached for gallows humour as he looked ahead to his team’s next visit to Manchester City.
Cardiff City are battling with Burnley and Southampton are the teams battling to avoid an Premier League relegation slot. Bottom two Fulham and Huddersfield Town looked doomed, while the Bluebirds remain hopeful of staying up and are at home against Chelsea on Sunday. That fixture is followed by Manchester City away in midweek and then […]
The young Bluebirds suffered a first defeat in five Professional Development under-23 League fixtures when they were beaten 3-1 by a strong Crewe Alexandra side. All three Alex goals at Cardiff International Sports Campus were scored within the opening 10 minutes of the game. Coach Jarred Harvey made five changes to the starting line-up for Cardiff’s […]
Golden oldie Gareth Bale has vowed to help polish the new gems as Wales aim to sparkle again in the European Championships. Almost three years after being the jewel in the crown for Chris Coleman’s team at Euro 2016, Bale is still the most precious piece in the new line-up under Ryan Giggs. But as Wales prepare to take on Slovakia tonight in their opening qualifier for Euro 2020, the Real Madrid star – not yet even 30 – is the self-confessed “oldie” compared to the new crops of youngsters who will provide vital support.
