Former Cardiff City goalkeeper Michael Oakes has returned to Wrexham FC as goalkeeping coach. The former Aston Villa, Wolves and Bluebirds goalkeeper, aged 45, was most recently coaching at Walsall and returns to the club in time for pre-season training with our shot-stoppers Rob Lainton and Christian Dibble. Also joining Wrexham’s backroom staff is sports […]
Craig Bellamy’s arrival at Anderlecht can help the Belgian club recover their status, claims their sports director Michael Verschueren. The former Wales striker has signed a three-year deal to become the club’s under-21s coach – despite an ongoing investigation into bullying allegations at Cardiff City. The move reunites Bellamy with his former Manchester City teammate Vincent Kompany, who left the Etihad Stadium last month to become player-manager at Anderlecht.
The Swans and the Bluebirds meet for the first time in five years in the opening Welsh derby of the Championship season at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday, October 26. The return fixture in Cardiff is set for Saturday, January 11 though either could be moved for television purposes. New manager Steve Cooper will lead […]
Neil Warnock’s Bluebirds have been handed a tough start for their return to Championship football. They start 2019-20 at Wigan Athletic and will then welcome newly-promoted Luton Town to Cardiff City Stadium a week later. “The way the fixtures have fallen the first half of the season is the most difficult,” said Warnock. “If we […]
Will Vaulks, an energetic, effective central midfield player, is ready to somersault past Derby in the English Midlands – and land firmly at Cardiff City Stadium. Wales international Vaulks has committed to the Bluebirds, preferring a switch from South Yorkshire to South Wales despite interest from Derby. He has agreed terms on a reported £1.5m […]
Former Cardiff City chairman Tony Clemo, who was a Bluebirds’ director for almost 20 years, has died at the age of 79. The highlight of his tenure at Ninian Park came in 1988 when Frank Burrows, a manager appointed by Clemo, led Cardiff to promotion from Division Four and won the Welsh Cup. Clemo was […]
Former Cardiff City and Newport County youth player Lewis Binns has committed to Merthyr Town for 2019-20. Chepstow-born Binns is a third new signing for EvoStik Southern Premier club Martyrs, following goalkeeper Alex Harris and striker Gethyn Hill. The trio are all from Wales and will play key roles in Merthyr’s bid to challenge for […]
Rob Page’s Wales under-21 were edged out 2-1 in their friendly International against Albania at the Selman Stermasi Stadium in Tirana. The match was the first of two friendly matches and the teams meet again on Tuesday. Wales were without Cardiff City’s Cameron Coxe, who was injured during training, while there was a welcome return […]
There are variety of emotions among Welsh players in the under-21 squad for two friendly matches against Albania away. Swansea City midfield player Jack Evans is surely the man looking forward to playing more than anybody else. More than a year after the crushing news that Evans had cancer he is preparing for a return […]
Will Vaulks was once paid 33p a week – but now trains alongside £86million man Gareth Bale who earns a reputed £350,000 a week. The Rotherham midfielder, who is being linked with a move to Cardiff City, was paid pennies at Falkirk as he tried to rebuild his career after being released by Tranmere. Vaulks survived thanks to his parents helping him out financially and the sacrifice has paid off as he prepares alongside Bale for Wales’ Euro 2020 qualifier against World Cup finalists Croatia.
Neil Warnock insists Cardiff City are making the right pre-season plans this summer after announcing a tour of North America. The Bluebirds – who are preparing for life back in the Championship after relegation from the Premier League – will play two games in the United States and one in Canada. Last season, in readiness to take on the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and others, Cardiff went on a rather more humble trip to Devon and Cornwall.
Welshman Adam Matthews has set his heart on a return to Championship football next season. Swansea-born Matthews, who spent more than a decade with the Bluebirds, is in Sunderland’s match-day squad for Sunday’s League One play-off final against Charlton Athletic at Wembley Stadium. There is, though, no certainty about the immediate future of the 27-year-old Wales international because his four-year contract ends this summer.
