The Welsh Rugby Union will host the U18 International Series next month, with participation from teams from across Europe and North America. Along with the host nation, U18 sides from Canada, England, Ireland, Italy and Scotland will compete in the competition which is a continuation of last year’s successful series – also held in Wales – with a significant proportion of those players in action recently in the U20 Six Nations.
Cardiff-based tennis pro Chris Lewis helped Team GB to the silver medal in the ITF (International Tennis Federation) World Team Games in South Africa. GB defeated Russia 2-1, Mozambique 3-0, defeated USA 3-0, and Spain 2-1 to reach the over-35s final against France. The French won 2-0, with the final match not needing to be played.
Martin O’Neill has claimed Seamus Coleman’s broken leg may not have happened if Gareth Bale had been sent off moments earlier in Wales’ World Cup qualifier against the Republic of Ireland. As the accusations and recriminations continue following last Friday’s clash in Dublin, the Ireland manager has suggested a Bale sending off may have cooled the temperature of a fiery match that was over-heating.

Ceri Sweeney is heading back to the Principality Stadium for a Welsh Cup final – 15 years after playing in his first. The former Wales outside-half, now 37, guided Pontypridd into the final of the WRU National Cup with a cool head as they beat Cross Keys 42-37 at Aberavon. Sweeney held his nerve to kick a late penalty just as Keys had moved to within two points after a magnificent comeback from 39-16 behind.
