Bernard Jackman plans to recruit Warren Gatland and his Wales coaching team as part of the Dragons revolution. Head coach Jackman has ambitious plans at Rodney Parade following the Welsh Rugby Union takeover and part of those involve calling on the talents of Gatland, Rob Howley and Robin McBryde. Having recruited Gavin Henson and South African Zane Kirchner, former Ireland hooker Jackman intends to use his friendship with Gatland to ensure he is not short of coaching back-up.
Nine Welsh athletes – which makes up 20 per cent of the squad – have been selected as part of Team GB for the World Para Athletics Championships which starts in London on July 14 and runs through to July 23. Paralympic champions Aled Sion Davies and Hollie Arnold are there, but Rob Cole profiles Laura Sugar, who has given up her career and her first sport in order to chase medals on the track. The first time Laura Sugar went to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London she enjoyed a eureka moment that changed her life. She went as a spectator in 2012, but five years on she will return as part of the British team at the IPC World Championships. On her first visit she thought to herself, ‘I can do that’, now she intends to prove she can by winning a medal.

South African Super Rugby sides the Cheetahs and Kings could be playing in the European Champions Cup in the future as well as an expanded Guinness PRO12. South African Rugby Union chief executive Jurie Roux has confirmed that the former Super Rugby franchises, the Cheetahs and Kings, are looking to play in the northern hemisphere “as soon as possible and at the first opportunity we can get”. Jurie has confirmed that talks are at an advanced stage with Pro 12 bosses to include the two teams in the 2017/18 tournament and an announcement on how an expanded PRO14 will work is expected very soon.
