Aled Davies Wants To Follow Para Dominance With Commonwealth Glory

Aled Davies has revealed he wants to compete for Wales at the Commonwealth Games after conquering the World Para Athletics Championships. The Welshman is looking to the future – and competing against able-bodied athletes – after reflecting on his gold medal in London on Sunday night. Davies won Great Britain’s seventh gold of the Championships on its third day with victory in the F42 discus.

Hollie Arnold has set her sights on Tokyo 2020 – and throwing over 50 metres – after defending her title with a world record display at the World Para Athletics Championships. Wales-based Arnold retained her women’s F46 javelin title at the London Stadium on Saturday night with 43.02 metres throw. Now she believes she can retain her Paralympic title won in Rio last year with a huge improvement in Japan in three year’s time.

Glamorgan Denied By Rain Despite Jacques Rudolph Flurry

Glamorgan and Somerset shared the spoils at Cardiff on Saturday night, where their T20 Blast match was abandoned after just 17.2 overs of Glamorgan’s innings. Despite a 35-minute delay because of rain, there was no reduction in overs, and after winning the toss, Somerset, who had lost the previous nine games in the competition, elected to bowl first. They gained immediate success when Lewis Gregory, with the second ball of his first over, had David Lloyd caught down the leg side by wicketkeeper Steve Davies for a single.

Tom Marshall Cracks The Mile Barrier On Road To Gold Coast Games

Tom Marshall has become only the 13th Welsh athlete to break the magical four minute barrier for the mile. The 28-year-old Cardiff AAC middle distance star further underlined his potential for the Commonwealth Games on the Gold coast next year by clocking 3 min, 58.31 sec in the Morton Mile at the Morton Games in Dublin this week. His latest personal best goes alongside a Commonwealth Games A standard in the 1500 metres at London’s Olympic Park last week (3.37.45) and an 800 metre best (1.48.68) in Watford last month. Slowly, but surely, he is catching up to the times posted by his coach, double Welsh Commonwealth Games athlete James Thie.

The rising stars of Welsh athletics clinched victory over their English and schools counterparts at the Under-20 Outdoor International Meeting in Cardiff. Wales Under-20s took on England North, England South, England Midlands and a Welsh Schools Under-20 team at Cardiff International Sports Stadium in midweek. After an exciting and entertaining evening of high quality athletics, the final standings were: Wales – 132 points; England South – 125; England Midlands – 97; England North- 95; Welsh schools – 61.
