Not even the Royal Wedding, FA Cup Final, or temperatures that peaked at 20 degrees could stop the hundreds of athletes that flocked to the third edition of the Royal Welsh Trail Running Festival, hosted as part of the Spring Festival at the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells. A series of six races offered something for everyone in superb conditions, culminating in the Welsh Inter-Regional Trail Half-Marathon Championships. The youngest runners in the Toddlers 50 metre dash at the start of the day were two-and-a-half, while 81-year-old Tom Harrison earned special praise for completing the half-marathon in 2 hours, 47 minutes.

Nearly 80 golfers between the ages of 6-14 made the trip to Mid Wales for the third leg of the Ping Welsh Junior Tour at Lakeside Garthmyl. The Ping Welsh Junior Tour is one of the mixed gender competitions in Wales at the younger age groups, with separate girls prizes as well, shown by Ffion Richardson of West Lancashire finishing third in the Under 8s category and moving up to second in the Order of Merit.
Graham Potter has tried to dampen speculation that he is about to be named as Swansea City’s manager. The current boss of Swedish club Ostersunds is understood to be close to being named as the successor to Carlos Carvalhal at the Liberty Stadium. The Swedish media are reporting that Potter has already agreed to take the job and that an announcement is expected to confirm his appointment on Friday, along with his assistants Billy Reid and Kyle Macaulay.

The 26-year-old Cardiff AAC runner made the most of the euphoria surrounding the ‘Night of the 10,000 PBs’ at Highgate as she stripped 22 seconds off her previous best to book her place in the British team for Germany in August. Arter, who ran for Team GB at the World Half Marathon championships earlier in the year, came home in third place in the 10,000 metre race in a time of 32 min, 15.71 sec to crack the qualifying time (32:30) for the August championships and move into second place on the Welsh all-time rankings.
Over 120 judoka from all over Wales took part in the competition in Tonyrefail organised by EGH Judo of Pontypridd. There was some high-quality judo on display at the competition from both the adults and children.

In a frank assessment of how far they have fallen, the Ulsterman – who suffered at the hands of his former province on Sunday – has spoken of “putting the pieces together” after a fractured and often fractious campaign. The Ospreys would have sneaked into Europe’s top tournament had they beaten Ulster at the Kingspan Stadium. Instead, they were stuffed, 35-17, and Clarke has recognised the limpness of their efforts over the last two years – which pre-dates his arrival – by talking about returning to the Champions Cup by the “front door” rather than the play-off tradesman’s entrance which proved beyond them in Belfast.
