Graham Potter has tried to dampen speculation that he is about to be named as Swansea City’s manager.
The current boss of Swedish club Ostersunds is understood to be close to being named as the successor to Carlos Carvalhal at the Liberty Stadium.
The Swedish media are reporting that Potter has already agreed to take the job and that an announcement is expected to confirm his appointment on Friday, along with his assistants Billy Reid and Kyle Macaulay.
The Swans have spoken to Potter but the 43-year-old Englishman would not be drawn when he was asked about the job on Tuesday night as he prepared his club for a Swedish league match against IK Sirius.
As he arrived at Ostersunds’ 9,000-capacity Jamtkraft Arena, Potter told Swedish reporters: “It’s just speculation. Now I will focus on an important match that we will play tomorrow.”
Potter has been of interest to a number of UK clubs due to his success with the Swedish club over the last seven years.
His Ostersunds side won the Swedish Cup last season after successive promotions in 2012 and 2013 put them in the Swedish top flight – Allsvenskan – for the first time in their history.
But Daniel Kindberg, the Ostersunds chairman, has insisted there had been no approach for his manager. “No one has contacted me about Graham, so it’s just speculation,” Kindberg told fotbollskanalen, the Swedish website.
“I have not talked to Huw Jenkins [the Swansea chairman]. We have had a relationship with Swansea for a long time, so it seems very strange. It’s probably the third, fourth or fifth time there has been speculation about Graham, so I file it under ‘speculation’ as usual.”
