Gethin Jenkins will dip his toe into the coaching pool next month when the Ospreys face the Scarlets in the Celtic Cup – the new shadow tournament for the Guinness Pro 14 designed primarily for under 23 players. The Cardiff Blues prop – Wales’ most capped player – will be the defence coach for the Blues’ youngsters. It’s a first venture into coaching for the Lions forward, who will be 38 in November, but still remains committed to at least one more season as a Blues player.
Welshman Dan Brabon will again play a key role for Cardiff Devils over the 2018-19 ice hockey season. Caerphilly-born Brabon, 36, has been working with Bowns since the reigning EIHL Netminder of the Year joined the Devils for the 2014-15 season. Goalie coach Brabon is helping Bowns and Thomas ‘Mad Dog’ Murdy as they aim […]

Hoornweg was in charge of Vitality Superleague club Celtic Dragons and the Welsh national team who competed in the Commonwealth Games. Former […]
The Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) and the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) have joined forces to create a new development competition – The Celtic Cup – for the emerging professional players from the four Irish provinces and four Welsh regions. The competition which features development squads from Connacht, Leinster, Munster, Ulster, Blues, Dragons, Scarlets and the Ospreys aims to provide a learning environment for players, coaches and referees by re-creating the week to week challenges presented by senior professional rugby.
Merthyr Town are fifth in the Southern League Premier South going into this Saturday’s home match against Gosport at the MetCoaches Community Stadium. The Martyrs won 3-0 at Chesham in their opening fixture and then drew 2-2 at home against Swindon Supermarine this week. Manager Lee Spalding and his ‘Marine team, who included former Cardiff […]
Former Swansea City stalwart Angel Rangel has joined Queens Park Rangers after being let go from the Liberty Stadium at the end of last season. The Spanish defender, who spent 11 years with the Swans, has signed for their Championship rivals on a short five-month contract. Angel, 35, made 374 appearances for Swansea before he was released just before the arrival of manager Graham Potter earlier in the summer.
The Dragons’ bid to share Sean Edwards with the Ospreys this season has collapsed due to a lack of cash. The Wales defence coach – who is leaving to take over at Wigan after next year’s World Cup – has confirmed he will be working with the Swansea region on a consultancy basis. Back in May, Wales coach Warren Gatland announced that Edwards would be working with both regions on a part-time basis, following a brief spell with the Cardiff Blues last season.
Padraig Amond led the charge at Cambridge United and Newport County manager Michael Flynn said: “It was an absolutely outstanding performance.” The Exiles won 4-1 in the Carabao Cup tie and earned their place in Thursday’s second round alongside Premier League clubs. County will be in the South section – and could draw Welsh rivals […]
Wales beat England 26-20, and by the convincing margin of four tries to two, in their latest outing in the Aon Under 18 International Festival in South Africa. If it was a tactically mature performance, the lopsided penalty count probably made life far harder than it might have been for Chris Horsman’s talented young side. In the end Wales conceded 12 penalties to England’s three and suffered as a result in the middle third of the game.
This year’s Dayinsure Wales Rally GB (4-7 October) will again support charities and good causes across north Wales, taking the total raised in the six years since the World Championship event moved to its current home in Deeside, Flintshire to more than £200,000. For the third year in succession, Hope House Children’s Hospices – consisting […]
Mark Williams believes he is as good now as he’s ever been as he climbs back towards the number one spot in the world. The Welshman moved to the No.2 spot in the snooker rankings – behind only Mark Selby – after winning the World Open in China last Sunday where he beat David Gilbert, 10-9 in a thrilling final. Following on the back of his incredible comeback world title victory earlier this year, the 43-year-old from Cwm has leapfrogged Ronnie O’Sullivan and could regain top spot later this year – 19 years after he first arrived as the leading player on the planet.
Former Cardiff City and Merthyr Town striker Stuart Fleetwood returns to South Wales on Tuesday evening. Fleetwood, 32, now plays for Swindon Supermarine and joined the Wiltshire club from Redditch United. He is set to lead Swindon’s attack against the Martyrs at Penydarren Park on Tuesday (7.45pm) and Fleetwood says: “I work as a full-time […]
Phil Davies is preparing for a vital Test match this week as Namibia face Kenya. There will be a shake-up on the coaching front at his old region, the Scarlets, this season, but as he tells Dai Sport, he’s not checking his phone. Phil Davies believes he is a better rugby coach now than at any time in his life as he prepares to take Namibia to another World Cup. Like Mike Ruddock – a serial winner in Irish rugby, who collected an incredible four trophies last season – Davies is a prophet more honoured these days outside of Wales than within.
Cardiff City teenager Mark Harris is loving life in League Two. ‘Sparky’ made his Newport County debut during their 1-0 home win against Crewe, playing alongside experienced Irishman Padraig Amond in attack. Harris, 19, played for an hour and was given a standing ovation by the 3,000 home fans when he was substituted. “That’s one […]
There is no doubting his exceptional speed and ability, but Elfyn Evans knows that he needs to pull a good result out of the bag on this weekend’s Rally Germany. The 29-year old recorded his maiden World Rally Championship stage win in Germany in 2014 and went on to finish fourth overall, so history suggests that a rewarding weekend could be on the horizon. But with only one WRC podium finish to shout about so far in 2018, Evans is currently eighth in the drivers’ standings. It’s not where he wants to be, and whilst throwing caution to the wind is never a good idea in rallying, an immediate change of fortune would be extremely timely.

Vydra, signed from Derby County last week, scored for Burnley in a 4-1 Professional Development League win. This was a first under-23 league match of the season […]
One of Welsh sport’s greatest figures as a player, coach and administrator has passed away. Rob Cole pays tribute to the legendary Betty Gray, who began playing table tennis in the 1930s. They don’t make them like they used to! All the headlines in Welsh table tennis this year may have been about the 11-year-old wonder kid Anna Hursey, but she could only dream of having a career as long and successful as Betty Gray.
