Josh Griffiths Wants Cardiff Half Success As Springboard To More London Marathon Glory

Ryan Giggs Expects Irish Eyes To Be Raging For Dublin Return

Ryan Giggs is expecting a fierce Irish backlash when he takes his Wales team to Dublin for the third round of the UEFA League of Nations to meet Martin O’Neill’s Republic of Ireland side. While Giggs was in dreamland after his home debut as manager turned into a 4-1 rout at Cardiff City Stadium last month, opposite number O’Neill had his head in his hands after the mauling.  Things didn’t go as well in Denmark the following week with a 2-0 defeat in Aarhus, but Giggs remains confident his side can repeat their heroics against the Irish in Dublin. They meet Spain next week at the Principality Stadium in a warm-up friendly that is set to attract a 50,000+ crowd.

Evans Joint Second In Wales Rally GB Shakedown

Elfyn Evans got his Dayinsure Wales Rally GB defence off to a flying start by setting the joint second fastest time on today’s Shakedown stage in his M-Sport Ford Fiesta WRC. It might have only been a short 3.37km run through Clocaenog forest, which doesn’t count towards the outcome of the event itself, but the time – just 0.2 seconds slower than Finland’s Teemu Suninen (Fiesta WRC) – confirms that Evans is one of the favourites for victory this weekend. The Shakedown stage also proved how slippery the conditions are, as Ott Tänak – who has won the last three World Championship rounds – skidded straight on at a junction and nose-dived into a bank. His Toyota Yaris WRC has been repaired and he’ll be none the worse off when the event gets underway.

New Faces And Old Rivalries Make Derby Day Battles Worth Watching This Time

It’s derby day in Wales this weekend and Robin Davey is feeling optimistic that all four regions now have sufficient quality to make the outcomes difficult to predict. But he still fancies the Cardiff Blues and the Scarlets. A fairly uneventful start to the Guinness Pro 14 season is about to explode into action with the arrival of two hotly contested derbies on Saturday in front of near full houses. In the west, the Scarlets take on the Ospreys at Parc Y Scarlets on Saturday afternoon and just over two hours later in the east the Dragons face Cardiff Blues at Rodney Parade.

For the first time in over a decade, the Prestone MSA British Rally Championship joins the FIA World Rally Championship at the Dayinsure Wales Rally GB – with points awarded at the end of Friday’s leg and the final round of the series taking in the remaining Saturday and Sunday stages combined. Co-driven by Abersoch’s Darren Garrod, Edwards is in a four-way fight for the title, and after a sensational season he will need a dramatic turn of bad luck not to become British champion sometime this weekend.
