Edwards Becomes British Rally Champion

North Wales pairing Matt Edwards and co-driver Darren Garrod have clinched the Prestone MSA British Rally Championship title on home soil on Dayinsure Wales Rally GB in their M-Sport Ford Fiesta R5, after a stellar season in Britain’s premier rallying series.
Despite sealing the honours, Pirelli-supported Edwards couldn’t keep up his 100% win record as a puncture on the penultimate stage slipped him down the order, but a vital top four place finish on the opening round of the weekend gave him enough points to secure his first BRC title. The penultimate round of the Prestone MSA British Rally Championship was played out on the Thursday and Friday stages of Dayinsure Wales Rally GB with nine tough and demanding stages providing the first gauntlet for the weekend.

Brookwell Brace Not Enough As Caernarfon Share Points With Bala Town

Two superb Danny Brookwell goals were not enough for Caernarfon Town as they were forced to share the points against a spirited Bala Town side. Sean Morrison Won’t Be Thrown Off Course In Using Cardiff City’s Not So Secret Weapon

Of all the statistics about Cardiff City this season, the one that takes the biscuit so far concerns Sean Morrison and his long throws. A proven attacking weapon for the Bluebirds ever since Aron Gunnarsson started the trend shortly after his arrival in the Welsh capital in 2011, the Icelandic midfielder’s absence through injury this season has allowed the skipper to take over the role. Last weekend he launched 20 throws into the Burnley box in an attempt to cause mayhem and grab a few goals. There was plenty of the former, but none of the latter.

Ollie Griffiths Puts Wales Wales Rivalry Aside As Dragons Seek First Derby Win In 21 Matches

Ollie Griffiths can make a major statement for Wales inclusion when he faces Ellis Jenkins on Saturday, but he insists that is far from his mind. Instead, the Dragons openside flanker will concentrate on trying to gain a first victory for his team in their derby fixture against the Cardiff Blues since 2014. Griffiths is a rival to Jenkins for the Wales No.7 shirt this season, following the retirement of Sam Warburton. But the former Wales U20 players says Guinness Pro 14 points will be thing uppermost in his mind, rather than impressing Warren Gatland.

Misfire Mugs Evans Of Wales Rally GB Victory Opportunity

An engine misfire has put Elfyn Evans out of the Dayinsure Wales Rally GB. The Dolgellau driver was a superb second, just 8.9 seconds behind Ott Tänak, when he drove out of midday service in Deeside and headed for the first of this afternoon’s three forestry stages. But he never reached Clocaenog. On the A494 near Mold, a misfire stopped his M-Sport Ford Fiesta WRC, with flames reportedly coming out of the exhaust and setting the car’s rear bodywork on fire.

Neil Warnock . . .Two Years And Counting At Cardiff City, But Is This The Beginning Of The End?

Is Neil Warnock’s time at Cardiff City slowly coming to an end? It is not a question any Cardiff City fan has been asking, but the Bluebirds boss was the one who raised the issue at his weekly pre-match press conference today (Friday) as he celebrated his second anniversary at the club. Seven games without a win since Cardiff’s return to the top flight has placed the whole team and club under strain. Only the slenderest of goal difference is currently keeping them off the bottom of the table.

After One-Way Derbies, Wayne Pivac Admits Ospreys Are Back Again

Wayne Pivac has warned his Scarlets team the Ospreys are no longer the soft touch of previous seasons. As the two rivals meet on Saturday in the first Guinness Pro14 Welsh derby of the season, the Scarlets coach is convinced the opponents he knows best are now on the up. Evans Flies In Close Battle For Wales Rally GB Lead

Elfyn Evans has made a magnificent start to today’s Dayinsure Wales Rally GB eight stages, and after the morning loop of five tests is second overall – just 8.9 seconds behind rally leader Ott Tänak. Co-driven by Dan Barritt, Evans started today in 13th place, after last night’s short opening stage at Tir Prince. The Dolgellau driver leapfrogged eight places to fifth after a great time through this morning’s slippery opening forest stage in Clocaenog and was then up to second after a superb time through Brenig, which is the longest stage of the event. And his time could have been even quicker, had a false puncture alarm not distracted him in his M-Sport Ford Fiesta WRC. Another great run through Penmachno forest, plus two fast and consistent runs through a very tricky Slate Mountain stage, sees Evans enter midday service in Deeside in a very strong second place.

Ryan Giggs Expects Irish Eyes To Be Raging For Dublin Return

Ryan Giggs is expecting a fierce Irish backlash when he takes his Wales team to Dublin for the third round of the UEFA League of Nations to meet Martin O’Neill’s Republic of Ireland side. While Giggs was in dreamland after his home debut as manager turned into a 4-1 rout at Cardiff City Stadium last month, opposite number O’Neill had his head in his hands after the mauling.  Things didn’t go as well in Denmark the following week with a 2-0 defeat in Aarhus, but Giggs remains confident his side can repeat their heroics against the Irish in Dublin. They meet Spain next week at the Principality Stadium in a warm-up friendly that is set to attract a 50,000+ crowd.
