Former Cardiff Devils captain Ryan Finnerty brings his Manchester Storm team to Ice Arena Wales this evening (Saturday, 7pm).

It is the only fixture of the weekend for head coach Andrew Lord and his Devils, who then fly to Sweden for Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Vaxjo Lakers.

“It’s a great test for us,” said Finnerty. “Nobody has gone into Cardiff and given them a game yet. It’s a big opportunity.”

Devils have started the domestic season in style, suffering only one defeat in nine Elite League and Challenge Cup fixtures. They have netted 25 goals and conceded five in four home matches.

Another big attendance is certain in Cardiff Bay and Lord’s men are looking to make an impact before setting off for their European challenge.

Devils won 3-2 after overtime against Dundee Stars away in midweek with defenceman Gleason Fournier firing the winning goal.

The Devils had seen a 2-0 lead disappear as the Stars struck twice on the power play to send the hard-fought game into overtime.

“It was a huge win, Dundee played really well,” said Lord. “We didn’t manage the puck well at times and they made us pay for that.

“It was exciting to come out on top thanks to a goal from one of our better players on the night.

“I’ve been in the UK five years now and it’s incredible how much the League has progressed. It’s growing at a rapid pace and Great Britain are more than on the map as well.

“It’s fantastic. Go into any building and you have to be at your best to win.”
