Whatever Wales side Warren Gatland decides to pick for round three of the Under Armour Series on Saturday, they will face a Tongan team who have hammered out a seven try warning. Tonga prepared to face Wales by beating the French Barbarians 49-38 in Bordeaux, last weekend. It was the perfect run out for Toutai Kefu’s side as they prepared for their big day in the Welsh capital this weekend. They go on to play Georgia a week later.
Sam Ricketts and Michael Flynn have both welcomed the Emirates FA Cup draw which sees their teams face each other in the second round. “It will be a great game for Welsh football,” said Wrexham manager Ricketts. “It adds extra spice and will certainly pick up a bit of interest. It’s going be a real […]
Wrexham will get a chance for revenge for their 2013 National League play-off final at Wembley when they host Newport County in an all-Welsh clash in the second round of the FA Cup. It will be only the 10th time two Welsh teams have met in the FA Cup from the first round proper onwards and the first since Newport County met Swansea City in 2006. The game will be played over the weekend of 1 December.
Leigh Halfpenny could have been pole-axed out of the rest of the autumn series – an assault Wales are still fuming over. The Wales full-back is in danger of missing the remaining matches against Tonga and South Africa after being concussed by a late tackle against Australia. Halfpenny is undergoing recovery protocols following the challenge by the Wallabies’ Samu Kerevi which left the Scarlets star wiped out on the Principality turf on Saturday night.
A massive battle is brewing in Welsh athletics to find out who is the best junior cross country runner not only in Wales, but potentially in the UK and beyond. Sefton Park, Liverpool will be the venue for the big showdown between north Wales’ finest, Matt Willis, and Cardiff’s rising star Jake Heyward on Saturday, 24 November. That’s when the British trials for the European Cross Country Championships take place with both men trying to make the junior team.
Matthew Maynard says he is feeling excited to be back in charge at Glamorgan – even if the initial appointment is only on a temporary basis. Maynard – brought in by Robert Croft as a consultant last season – will now take over for winter training following Croft’s dismissal last month. Glamorgan are seeking to appoint both a new head coach, a position Maynard has held before, and a director of cricket ahead of next season.

Graham Potter insists he has not glanced at the Championship table – even though Swansea City have crept back up to eighth spot. The Swans manager saw his team win 1-0 at Bolton thanks to Barrie McKay’s superbly drilled strike and are back to within two points of the play-offs. But Potter – whose teams had thrown away the lead to lose late on at Rotherham the week before – wants to concentrate on cause rather than effect.
Jamie Jukes mastered atrociously wet and slippery conditions to win the 2018 PokerStars Rally in the Spencer Sport Mitsubishi Mirage – and immediately dedicated the win to his friend and fellow rally driver Mark James, who remains in hospital following a crash on Saturday morning. Co-driven by Hirwaun’s James Morgan, the Penrhiwllan-based driver made a cautious start in the worst of the weather conditions on Friday night. Having survived heavy rain and flooded roads, Jukes held a strong second position at the overnight halt, and was sportingly full of praise and admiration for Kevin Davies/Dylan Jenkins, who led the event by 11 seconds in their Escort Mk2. It was another amazing performance by Davies, who recently won the Powys Lanes and Cilwendeg road rallies. Davies eventually finished third, behind Jukes and second-placed Andrew Dudgeon/Joe Dooley in a Mitsubishi Evo.
Kadeem Harris is convinced Cardiff City can prove the doubters wrong – just as he has disproved Neil Warnock. Harris was considered to be a likely passenger this season on the Bluebirds’ return to the Premier League, a back-up option at best but a striker so far down the queue that his manager questioned whether he might actually get a game. Instead, the season is only in mid-autumn and already the 25-year-old has altered perceptions. Harris has been Cardiff’s most penetrative forward over the past month, scoring twice in the victories over Fulham and then Brighton last weekend and also turning provider for Callum Paterson.

Wales became the tenth team to qualify for the 2021 Rugby League World Cup in England after they pushed aside Ireland 40-8 in Wrexham on Sunday. It was a role reversal from a year ago to the day, where Wales were easily second best to their Celtic neighbours in Perth, Australia in both nations’ final game of the 2017 World Cup. However, this time around it always looked like that there was only going to be one winner as the Welsh put in a dominant performance.
Rowland Phillips will make changes to his Wales women’s team to face Hong Kong, despite their convincing weekend win over South Africa. The Wales coach saw his side dominate the South Africans and emerge 19-5 winners, but he now wants to see who else in his extended squad of 45 is up to the task of Test rugby.
Wrexham powered into the Emirates FA Cup second round thanks to a convincing team display against Weston-super-Mare away. Merthyr Town crashed out of the Buildbase FA Trophy, slipping to a bitterly disappointing 2-0 defeat against Lewes.
