Graham Potter insists he has not glanced at the Championship table – even though Swansea City have crept back up to eighth spot.
The Swans manager saw his team win 1-0 at Bolton thanks to Barrie McKay’s superbly drilled strike and are back to within two points of the play-offs.
But Potter – whose teams had thrown away the lead to lose late on at Rotherham the week before – wants to concentrate on cause rather than effect.
“I pay no attention to the table at this stage of the season,” he said.
“I suppose it gives you a bit of an indication about where you are, but I don’t look at it. The big thing for me is making sure we concentrate on trying to improve.
“Things can change very quickly in the Championship, as we have seen already this season. What is important is that we keep focusing on the next game.
“If you look at the table after a good result it can give you a false sense of security, and very quickly you can drop back down.”
The Swans do not play for a fortnight because of the final international break of 2018.
They return to action when Championship leaders Norwich City visit the Liberty Stadium on November 24.
But captain Leroy Fer believes momentum is now back with Potter’s side who are just five points off second place.
“It’s hard in this league to get points away from home,” said the Dutch midfielder.
“It was a big shift from the lads and we needed to pick up an away win. It’s a big boost because we’ve had to wait a while since we last won on the road.
“We played well for 75 minutes in the previous game against Rotherham but ended up losing whereas on Saturday it was totally different as we learned our lessons.
“In the first half against Bolton, Barrie’s quality gave us a deserved lead and we grafted it out in the second half and everyone defended very well.
“After the disappointment at Rotherham the boys were really determined to bounce back with a win and give the fans something to celebrate on the long way home.”
