Merthyr Town were victims of an EvoStik Southern League smash and grab raid at their MetCoaches Stadium home. The Martyrs were leading with less than three minutes left, but Hartley Wintney grabbed two late goals to win 2-1 and snatch the three points. The visitors from Hampshire were second best for most of the match […]

Chaz Davies bagged his first podium of the season after finishing third in the opening World Superbikes race at Motorland Aragon. The Knighton-born rider battled his way up from eighth on the grid on a Spanish track where he has seven wins in his career.
John Mulvihill has admitted Cardiff Blues are relying on others to help them make the Guinness Pro14 play-offs. The Blues needed to maintain their recent good form away to Munster on Friday night, but instead they crashed to a 45-21 defeat. Mulvihill’s side did manage to score three tries, but they failed to secure a bonus point, leaving them needing favours from others sides if they are to finish in the top three of Conference A.
Ian Traylor, Merthyr Town’s leading scorer with 22 goals this season, is gunning for Hampshire club Hartley Wintney. ‘Traylz’ has netted a total of 178 goals for the Martyrs and would love to take that tally past the 200 mark. It won’t be this season, but former Hirwaun and Pontypridd Town striker Traylor, aged 29, […]
Welsh Wizards will be back with more depth and extra quality for the 2019-20 Premier Squash League season. PSL is the strongest club squash league in the World and Cardiff-based Wizards finished third in their first season, clinching their place with a 3-2 home win against Bexley. That is a hugely creditable finish for a […]
Canadian centre Stephen Dixon insists it’s ‘redemption time’ for Cardiff Devils in the Elite League play-offs. Devils missed out on a third successive title when they lost their final regular season fixture in Coventry and finished runners-up to Belfast Giants after the rivals finished level on points. “It sucks to lose the title on a […]

Wales Wheelchair Rugby League have announced their squad for the 2019 Celtic Cup at Calderdale College in Halifax on Saturday 27th April as the Dragons attempt to win the trophy for a fourth successive year. The tournament starts at 11am and will, as per usual, see three full-length 80 minute matches between Wales, Scotland and Ireland, who are this year’s official organisers.
Swansea City have opened talks with Wayne Routledge to extend his eight-year stay at the club. The 34-year-old was thought to be surplus to requirements after the drop from the Premier League last summer, but the veteran winger has battled his way back into the side and proved his worth to manager Graham Potter.
Ireland star Keith Earls has warned his Munster team-mates to beware the threat of Gareth Anscombe tonight when Cardiff Blues face the Irish province in Cork. Earls was on the receiving end from Anscombe last month when Wales hammered Ireland 25-7 to seal the Six Nations Grand Slam on an afternoon when the Blues No.10 kicked six penalties and a conversion. It was a performance that put to rest suggestions that the New Zealand-born kicker could still be vulnerable to the pressure of a big occasion and that Dan Biggar’s reliability with the boot would always be a safer option.
Connah’s Quay boss Andy Morrison says his team must treat their remaining league fixtures as ‘cup finals’ as they attempt to wrestle the JD Welsh Premier League title from The New Saints. The Nomads turn their attentions back to the title race and visit Caernarfon this evening (7.45) after reaching the JD Welsh Cup final last weekend. “Every game feels like a cup final at this stage of the season and Friday night’s visit to Caernarfon will again be a huge game for the club,” said Morrison.
Jayne Ludlow insists she’s not worried by a Wales team that have forgotten how to score goals. On a night when Loren Dykes put two zeros next to her name – becoming only the second Welsh woman after Jess Fishlock to win 100 caps – Wales did the same by recording a 0-0 draw at home to the Czech Republic on Thursday. It may only have been a friendly at Rodney Parade, but as Wales head towards more European Championship qualifiers later this year they need to rectify a lack of effective firepower.
Smooth-skating defenceman Gleason Fournier, who has enjoyed a remarkable Elite League season, insists Cardiff Devils rekindled his love for ice hockey. The 27-year-old from Rimouski in Quebec played in all 60 League matches for Devils and scored an astonishing 71 points (24 goals, 47 assists). A year ago, in the Devils office at their Viola […]

Over 100 drivers and cars will be thundering around the Anglesey Circuit this weekend, at the double-header British Sprint Championship weekend (6/7 April). It’s the first of two such sprint meetings that will be held at Ty Croes this year, organised by Longton and District Motor Club. On Saturday the sprint course will be on the challenging National Circuit configuration, whilst on Sunday the longer International Circuit will be used – where top speeds of 180mph will be reached.
Ioan Lloyd scored his first rally win of his career after dominating the Formula 1000 Junior Rally Championship category at the recent DCC Ingliston Stages Rally. The Llandysul teenager, who finished runner-up in the series last year, set the fastest time on six out of the eight stages in his Citroen C1 to score a stylish 16 second victory on the all-asphalt event, which was held near Edinburgh Airport. The result has moved Lloyd and co-driver Jonathan Jackson (who is originally from Colwyn Bay) up to fifth in the F1000 driver standings, two points ahead of fellow Welsh driver Max Hughes and equal on points with fourth-placed Robert Wilson. The three drivers ahead of Lloyd have scored on both rounds, and with the best six scores from 10 rallies counting, this puts him in a very good position going into round three on Anglesey.

Wales’ current crop of marathon runners may not be fuelled on a diet of coke and meat pies that took Steve Jones to the world record. But as he tells Dai Sport’s athletics writer Owen Morgan in an exclusive interview, the now Colorado-based running legend is excited about the chances of the likes of Dewi Griffiths, Josh Griffiths and Natasha Cockram in London this year and is always ready to pass on his knowledge to the next generation.
