Bears Are Tamed As Jersey Luc Beats Russian Lyn

Lyn Jones and his World Cup-bound Russia have been left with red faces after losing to Jersey Reds in Moscow. The former Wales coach asked his son Luc – Jersey’s scrum-half – to help arrange the fixture after Cardiff Blues pulled out of a trip to face The Bears. He might be wishing he had looked elsewhere as the Channel Islanders pulled off a famous 35-22 victory on Tuesday at the Slava Stadium.

Warren Gatland And Wales . . . A Slow Burning Romance Reaches Its Final Embrace

Warren Gatland will take charge of Wales for the 117th time on Saturday – and the last in Cardiff. Robin Davey says it should be a time for assessment and gratitude towards a coach who delivered more teams, more depth, and more honours than any of his predecessors. The World Cup may be just around the corner but before that comes the end of a remarkable era. For on Saturday, Warren Gatland will take charge of Wales for the final time in Cardiff. When Wales run out on to the Principality Stadium pitch for their last home World Cup warm-up game against Ireland, Gatland will be making his farewell at the famous ground.

Newport Boss Michael Flynn Says Hammers Blow Will Not Touch League Form

Michael Flynn insists there will be no Cup hangover this time following Newport County’s exit from the Carabao Cup. County’s hopes of another giant-killing chapter to add to their illustrious recent history were swiftly ended by West Ham on Tuesday night when the Premier league club won 2-0 at Rodney Parade to move into the third round of the tournament. Last season, following their brave FA Cup defeat to Manchester City, Flynn’s side lost three of their next five League games – a sequence that almost put them out of the run-in for the League Two play-off places.

The only Welsh team in the British American Football National League can win their first silverware in eight years this weekend. But standing in the way of the South Wales Warriors, in the British American Football Association (BAFA) Division Two Southern Conference Britbowl, are a team who hold a special place in their hearts for the Welsh capital. The Bournemouth Bobcats were formed in 1986 and just a year later won the Budweiser Premier Bowl, the then second tier of British gridiron, at Cardiff City FC’s infamous Ninian Park.

Newport To Play Secret Card Against West Ham . . . The Wilfried Bony Factor

The shadow of Wilfried Bony can help knock West Ham out of the Carabao Cup tonight, according to Newport County goalkeeper Nick Townsend. Former Swansea City, Manchester City and Ivory Coast striker Bony has been training at Rodney Parade for the past three weeks, although manager Michael Flynn has always insisted the forward will end up resuming his stalled career at somewhere higher up football’s food chain than EFL League Two. But as County bid to script more Cup giant-killing history this evening at home to the Premier League club, Townsend has no doubts Bony will have in indirect influence on the outcome.

Lyn Jones And Son Luc Help With The Bears’ Necessities

It will be father against son at the Slava Stadium in Moscow today when Russia continue their build-up to the Rugby World Cup with a game against Jersey Reds. The Bears were due to play Georgia this week, but that game was cancelled on security grounds. They then invited Cardiff Blues to fill the gap, but they ultimately declined. But a conversation between Russian head coach Lyn Jones – former Dragons and Ospreys chief – and his son, Luc, the new Jersey scrum-half, helped to pave the way for one of the most notable fixtures in the 140-year history of the island club.

Cole Equals Epynt Record With Sixth Mewla Rally Victory

Damian Cole made equalling a sporting record that has stood for almost 20 years look remarkably easy at the weekend, when he won the Old Forge Garage Mewla Rally for a sixth time – and with it his 23rd rally victory on Epynt. Cole’s first win on the fast rollercoaster roads of the famous military range above Sennybridge was 16 years ago, and ever since then the Abergavenny ace has been chipping away at John Price’s all-time record. Cole equalled the Epynt record in sensational style – establishing a 29 second lead by half way after a masterful performance in his Get Connected/Energizer-backed Ford Fiesta WRC and then easing off in the closing stages to win by 19 seconds.

Lengthy Pit Stop Costs Morris Big In Japan

Bentley Continental GT3 driver Seb Morris delivered another very strong account of himself with the marque’s official factory team during the prestigious Suzuka 10 Hours over the weekend, on his first ever visit to the world-famous Japanese circuit. Competing with Bentley Team M-Sport alongside fellow ‘works’ drivers Andy Soucek and Alex Buncombe, the outing marked the second as a full ‘pro’ with the manufacturer for Wrexham-born Morris and he immediately confirmed his abilities during practice and qualifying. Unfortunately, an issue with the car during the second hour of Sunday’s race required a pit visit that ultimately cost the squad half an hour and ended any chance of challenging for the podium. One crumb of comfort for the entry, however, was the fastest lap of the race.
