The Welsh Motorsports Centre will celebrate 30 years of motor racing this year.

Pembrey Celebrates 30 Years Of Top Quality Motorsport

Did you know that Ayrton Senna still holds the lap record at the Welsh Motorsports Centre? It’s just one of the hidden historical motorsport gems that the Pembrey circuit will be celebrating this year, as it marks its 30th Anniversary as a fully operational motor racing track. The three time Formula 1 world champion, who is regarded as one of the greatest racing drivers of all time, set the unbeaten 44.43 second fastest lap record in a McLaren during testing in 1988 – shortly before winning his first world title. “The surface at the circuit is very smooth,” said Senna at the time. “It’s a high-grip surface which is nice to drive. It’s quite twisty, so it’s demanding. You have to put in a lot of effort, with physical and mental concentration, all the time. It’s a short lap, but for testing it’s a good circuit.”

Wayne’s World Will Be A Brave New One . . . But Wales Won’t Get There Overnight

Wales go to Dublin on Saturday to face Ireland in round two of the Six Nations and the second meaningful match for their new coach, Wayne Pivac. He’s made a decent start, but Geraint Powell assesses the extent to which one coach can leave his imprint and how long it might take. The Wayne Pivac era began in earnest on Saturday, with a comfortable home 42-0 shut out of a poor Italian side that can no longer even has a customary rearguard action from Sergio Parisse. Yes, there was a match against the Barbarians in November, but such a match is usually a far cry from tournament Test rugby and, if truth be told, it was more of a send-off for Warren Gatland after his 12 years and three World Cup cycles at the helm of the Welsh national side.

Neco Williams Rubs Shoulders With Liverpool A-Listers . . . And Is Ready For Wales Euro Star Billing

Rising Liverpool star Neco Williams believes the form that has put him on the radar of Ryan Giggs and Wales stems from the sky high standards he faces just to get a game at club level. The Wales Under 18 international has been part of the first-team training set up on and off for the last 18 months or so and being close-up and personal with fellow right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has helped him develop his game. Williams, still only, 18 was man of the match in Tuesday night’s 1-0 FA Cup fourth-round replay win over League One Shrewsbury, achieved by a team with an average age of 19 years and 102 days.

Cian Healy: I Seek No Vengeance Against Wales . . . I Just Want To Beat Them

Ireland and Lions prop Cian Healy insists revenge will not be the motivation when Wales visit Dublin on Saturday. The Leinster forward was part of the bedraggled Irish side who succumbed 25-7 to Wales in last season’s Six Nations, but is adamant that recent history plays no part in his desire to make amends. Ireland started their new era under Andy Farrell with a slightly tentative 19-12 victory over Scotland and now face a Wayne Pivac-refreshed Wales who thumped Italy 42-0.

Evans Makes Mint Irish Debut In New Polo

Meirion Evans got his 2020 Irish Tarmac Championship campaign off to an excellent start with a solid fourth place finish on the opening round of the series, the Galway International Rally. Having driven both a Škoda Fabia R5 and Hyundai i20 R5 in 2019, this was the Lampeter driver’s first event in a new Volkswagen Polo R5 – which, like the cars before it, is run by the family’s hugely successful Llanwrda-based rally preparations business, Melvyn Evans Motorsport. Co-driven by Colwyn Bay-born Jonathan Jackson, Evans looked immediately at home in the Polo R5 and was quick out of the blocks in the wet and extremely slippery conditions, setting third fastest time on the opening stage. A loss of power at the start on SS2 cost him over 20 seconds, but he pressed on and set his first fastest time in the car on SS7.
