Wales’s world No 9 has been forced to pull out of next week’s championships in Nottingham due to the injury she suffered at the Tournament of Champions in New York last month.

Evans was seeded two for the event at the University of Nottingham Sport.

The 29-year-old said: “I’m really gutted to have to pull out of the Nationals and not be able to defend my title this year.

“The Nationals is always one of my favourite events to play in so I’m really disappointed but I’m working hard to be back as soon as possible!”

Tesni Evans hopes to be back on the squash tour soon.

Evans became the first Welsh player to win the prestigious title with a victory over Alison Waters in 2018, defending her crown last year with a 3-0 victory over Emily Whitlock.

The Rhyl-based player was forced tp pull out of her second round match in New York against USA’s Olivia Blatchford Clyne while trailing 4-7 in the first game.
