Cardiff City And Swansea City May Have Worn The Last Parachutes From The Premier League

Cardiff City and Swansea City could be among the last clubs to receive parachute payments if radical plans to overhaul football go ahead. Both Welsh clubs received staggered payments of between £75m and £90m to help soften the blow following relegation for the Premier League. But those would be scrapped under new plans and replaced with a 25% future annual share of Premier League revenue across the EFL clubs.

Wales’ clash with the Republic of Ireland has been hit by more problems with the news that five Irish players have been ruled out after one of them tested positive for coronavirus. The Football Association of Ireland have confirmed one unnamed player tested positive on Friday following the squad’s return from Slovakia after a negative test on Monday, and four others deemed to be close contacts on Saturday night – understood to be John Egan, Callum Robinson, Callum O’Dowda and Alan Browne – have since been stood down.
