Glamorgan have re-signed Ireland Test captain Andy Balbirnie after continuing doubts over when Australian pair Marnus Labuschagne and Michael Neser will be available to the county. Batsman Bilbirnie has agreed a short term deal to replace Labuschagne for April after the Australian domestic season was extended due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Labuschagne and Neser are due to join Glamorgan once the domestic season finishes in Australia.
Callum Sheedy has gone from boozy fan to the main man for Wales, even if Dan Biggar is still the landlord at No.10. If Wayne Pivac is true to recent form then Biggar will start at outside-half for the Grand Slam mission against France in Paris on Saturday and Sheedy will be responsible for locking up. That’s how it worked with the Triple Crown decider against England and there is little to suggest that Sheedy will not be called upon from the bench in Wales’ final match of the Six Nations.
Penybont took a step closer to securing a place in the end of season European play-offs, as Rhys Griffiths’ side maintained their good run of form with a 1-0 win over Barry Town last night. Kane Owen’s second-half penalty was enough for Penybont to extend their unbeaten run to four matches following the restart and […]
Steve Cooper refused to blame fatigue for Swansea City’s 3-0 defeat at Bournemouth which has left his team struggling to keep pace with the top two clubs in the Championship. A poor defensive display and inadequate response to falling 2-0 down by half-time saw the Swans fall to their first defeat in five matches. Philip Billing’s blistering early strike, an own goal from defender Joel Latibeaudiere and Arnaut Danjuma’s thumping late finish helped revive Bournemouth’s play-off ambitions.
Mick McCarthy admitted he had to read the riot act to his Cardiff City players as his side’s play-off hopes suffered a blow. The Bluebirds draw goal-less draw at home to Stoke City saw them drop to ninth six points behind sixth-placed Barnsley who have a game in hand.
Liam Williams was first to the punch in the war of words with Demetrius Andrade after the WBO middleweight title fight between the two was confirmed. The Clydach Vale boxer has described his American opponent as a “complete weirdo” ahead of their world title clash in Florida on April 17.
The sun is shining, spring is in the air and also in the step of Evan Hoyt – Wales’ top ranked tennis player – who is finally nearing fitness. It’s been a long road back for Hoyt who told Graham Thomas there were times when he wondered whether he would stay the course. Evan Hoyt has admitted his latest injury setback has been the most difficult of his career and led him to even question his future in tennis. Wales’ number one player is currently in Spain, recovering from a knee injury that has sidelined him since last summer.
The medical tribunal hearing involving Richard Freeman continues on Wednesday. The ex-British Cycling and Team Sky chief doctor has already been found guilty of ordering banned testosterone in 2011 “knowing or believing” it was to help dope an unnamed rider and there could be more damaging revelations to come. Fraser Watson would like to feel surprised, but has the sense that this was always where Team Sky were heading. First, we learnt about the jiffy bag. But that didn’t add up. Because this was Team Sky. This was an organisation with an ethos of total transparency and zero tolerance for drugs.
Wales will be playing a major part in a ground-breaking weekend triple bill of international rugby league in England this June, as sides prepare for the Rugby League World Cup. To kick the weekend off, there will be an historic double-header featuring the England Men’s and Women’s teams at Warrington’s Halliwell Jones Stadium on Friday June 25.
Gower Riders CC will stage their 200th online turbo session on Saturday (20 March) – and it will have a Six Nations theme. As Wales’s rugby players prepare for their Grand Slam bid in France, the highly-successful cycling club will be well into their own milestone.
Ken Owens has paid tribute to head coach Wayne Pivac ahead of Wales’ final push for the Guinness Six Nations title and a fifth Grand Slam. Wales stand on the verge of conquering European rugby once more, with Pivac’s team transformed from one that claimed just three Test match victories last year. If they beat France in Paris – something Wales have achieved on three of their last four Six Nations visits – then it would complete a startling recovery.
Gareth Bale is in safe hands with Wales and Tottenham have no concerns about him linking up for international duty, according to Robert Page. Wales caretaker manager Page has insisted there has been no contact between Wales and Spurs over national captain Bale’s condition. Bale and injured Aaron Ramsey were both named in the Wales squad for their opening 2022 World Cup qualifiers – in Belgium on March 24 and against the Czech Republic in Cardiff six days later.

The return of the Orchard Welsh Premier Women’s League saw joint-leaders Cardiff Met and Swansea City maintain the pace at the top of the table. The WPWL’s top-two sides picked up where they left off with convincing wins as the league resumed on Sunday, with its first weekend of fixtures since being suspended in December. […]
Andre Ayew is currently not among the Ghana players preparing for two international matches in the forthcoming window. The Swansea City striker is still with his club and Jack Hammett reckons all Swans fans will be hoping it stays that way as the promotion push enters a critical phase. Even though Andre Ayew did not earn the assist, nor get on the scoresheet at Luton, the commentators and pundits on Sky Sports’ coverage of Swansea City’s latest win at the weekend were busy name-checking the club’s talisman. In making a selfless run into the six-yard box, the Ghanaian striker took what seemed like the entire Luton defence with him, allowing Yan Dhanda to pull the ball back to Conor Hourihane who put the Swans ahead after just three minutes.
Charlotte Carey has one more crack at qualifying for the singles at the Tokyo Olympics. The Welsh No 1 produced a battling display at the qualifying tournament in Qatar over the weekend.

In a statement issued by Welsh Athletics, CEO James Williams said: “We’d like to express our solidarity with all those supporting our collective rights to exercise safely and would urge Welsh Government to work across departments to ensure that this matter is given due attention.”
Kevin Ellison accused Morecambe’s Derek Adams of disrespecting him after the Newport County substitute celebrated loudly into his former manager’s face. Ellison came back to haunt the man who kicked him out at Morecambe as he scored the vital third goal that allowed Newport County to cruise to a 3-1 win – and third successive victory- enabling them to climb up to fourth place in League Two. The 42-year-old Ellison came on in the 67th minute with Nicky Maynard to provide new impetus up front for the Exiles.
George North insists Wales can cope with the sharp end of the Six Nations this weekend and make sure it’s France who get a poke in the eye in Paris. The two countries clash in the final scheduled weekend of the tournament with another Grand Slam on the line for Wales, but with France still capable of going on to claim the title if they deny Wayne Pivac’s men. “We are at the pointy end of the stick now,” said North, who drew level with Shane Williams’ Wales record mark of 22 Six Nations touchdowns at the Stadio Olimpico in the 48-7 win over Italy.
Geraint Thomas reckons his preparations for the Tour de France are right on track. The Ineos Grenadiers rider went into today’s fifth stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico in Italy in 10th spot.
