Wales TT Ace Charlotte Carey Faces Portugal Mission In Bid To Qualify For Tokyo

Charlotte Carey has one more crack at qualifying for the singles at the Tokyo Olympics. The Welsh No 1 produced a battling display at the qualifying tournament in Qatar over the weekend.

Charlotte Carey has one more crack at qualifying for the singles at the Tokyo Olympics.

The Welsh No 1 produced a battling display at the qualifying tournament in Qatar over the weekend.

Carey, seeded 30,  opened her campaign with a convincing 4-0 victory over Kazakhstan’s Zauresh Akasheva (11-6, 11-8, 11-7, 11-2) in the round of 16.

But in the quarter-finals, Carey lost out 4-2 in a hard-fought match against Chile’s No 14 seed Paulina Vega (11-7, 8-11, 2-11, 6-11, 11-9, 10-12).

Four places had been up for grabs in Doha for the women for Tokyo.

Spain-based Carey will have a final chance of making the Games at the European qualifying tournament in Odivelas, Portugal, on 21-25 April.
