By Dan Parker While promotion to the Premier League is still a long shot for Swansea City – despite their current revival – it’s very much a strong possibility for two Welshmen at Nottingham Forest. Steve Cooper and Brennan Johnson have both been integral to the club’s transformation, as Daniel Parker reports. During his two-year tenure at […]
After Birmingham 2022, the next Commonwealth Games will not be hosted by a single city, but by the Australian state of Victoria. It’s a significant move as it opens up the possibility of a collaborative bid from Wales – rather than just Cardiff – as Rob Carbon reports. The door has been opened for Wales to potentially host the Commonwealth Games once again after the 2026 multi-sport event was awarded to the state of Victoria in Australia. The only time the Games has been hosted in Wales was back in 1958. There was a formal bid in the nineties that was unsuccessful, but there has always been a desire to try to repeat the success of the ‘Friendly Games’ of 64 years ago.
Muslim golfers have been enjoying the chance to practice their golf around midnight during the month of Ramadan, thanks to a new Wales Golf initiative. Parc Golf Club between Cardiff and Newport opened up their driving range and short game academy area late at night for the first time to offer the chance for Muslims to break their fast and then practice their golf or learn to play.

By Harry Corish Russell Martin has insisted he will not be rushed into any quick sale of Swansea City’s leading marksman Joel Piroe. Swansea head coach Martin has admitted there is likely to be plenty of interest in Piroe after the Dutch striker’s hugely impressive debut season at the club. The 22-year-old has already been […]
By Paul Evans Matt Edwards put in a truly cracking performance to win the hotly contested historic section of the Motorsport UK Pirelli Ravenol Welsh Rally Championship by an incredible 40 seconds on last weekend’s Rallynuts Stages Rally. Co-driven by Hamish Campbell, the triple British champion got off to a shaky start with some untested […]
Natasha Harding is set to win her 100th cap for Wales on Tuesday afternoon to write the latest chapter in an astonishing 14-year story. The Wales striker will reach three figures if she makes an appearance against Kazakhstan, in what is a crucial game for Wales in their World Cup qualifying campaign. Harding made her Wales debut against Switzerland as a 19-year-old way back in 2008.
No sport was hit harder by the Covid pandemic than horse racing, where empty courses and cancelled meetings are estimated to have cost £450 million in lost income. But Kevin Hire – the recently appointed general manager at Ffos Las Racecourse – reckons the sport is fighting back and has bold plans for the future, as he tells Graham Thomas. Kevin Hire carries a vision in his head of what a perfect day’s racing looks like from his perspective. The new general manager at Ffos Las wants racegoers – both new and old – to leave the course with a smile of satisfaction and an intention to come back for more.
By Carl Field Welsh rhythmic gymnasts and Birmingham 2022 contenders Elizabeth Popova and Gemma Frizelle will represent Great Britain across Europe this month. Carmarthen-born Popova, who is in her first year as a senior and doesn’t turn 16 until the end of November, will this weekend be competing in the FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup […]
By Matthew Burgess Interim Cardiff Devils head coach Brodie Dupont was pleased with the team’s execution against the Manchester Storm, as they rallied to their first win following the departure of Jarrod Skalde. The Devils scored three times in the final period to bounce back from Saturday’s overtime defeat to the Guildford Flames. Cole Sanford […]
By David Williams Joel Piroe is determined to keep scoring and provide Swansea City with the goals that might spark a late charge for promotion to the Premier League. The Dutch striker scored his 20th goal of the season in his club’s 2-1 victory over Derby County at the weekend, which earned the Swans their third […]
There’s a Welshman at the top of the League Two table who looks well placed to win a title and promotion. Rob Edwards pulled up few trees as an international player, though his managerial career is echoing the quiet success he achieved as a club player, as Daniel Parker reports. Of the 21 players handed their first cap by Mark Hughes in his tenure as Wales boss from 1999 to 2004, fewer than 10 would go on to win 30 or more caps. While a handful of Hughes’ debutants progressed to become stars in a red jersey – Danny Gabbidon, Simon Davies, Robert Earnshaw and James Collins – the majority were international émigrés by the end of the decade.
Dwayne Peel believes the Scarlets can make the United Rugby Championship play-offs after they thrashed Cardiff at the Arms Park. The Scarlets head coach watched his team hammer their rivals 49-15 to move into ninth place in the table on the back of three successive bonus point victories. The top eight qualify for the end of season play-offs and the resurgent Scarlets – the form team in Wales – look well placed after their return to form.
Wayne Rooney has urged Wales manager Rob Page to “get over” any personal history with Tom Lawrence and recall Derby County’s captain. Lawrence has not played for Wales for almost a year since Page left him out of the squad for last summer’s delayed Euro finals. Derby manager Rooney – whose team, including Lawrence, lost 2-1 at Swansea City on Saturday – has claimed the omission of the 28-year-old could be down to “history” between player and current caretaker boss.
England coach Simon Middleton had words of comfort for Wales after his Red Roses handed out a 10-try thrashing to demolish any hopes of a Welsh Triple Crown. Wales suffered a first defeat of their TikTok Women’s Six Nations campaign when they were beaten 58-5 at Kingsholm in Round Three of the championship. Wales scored one try through Kelsey Jones in the second half, but for the most part it was dominant stuff from the No.1 team in the world in front of a record women’s tournament crowd of 14,689 at Kingsholm.
Steve Morison applauded his Cardiff City players after he admitted they had restored his energy following what he described as “an emotionally draining week.” Morison saw his team come from behind to win 2-1 at Reading and go some way to erasing the immediate memory of their 4-0 derby day humiliation at home to Swansea City seven days before. Striker Lucas Joao put the Royals ahead in the seventh minute when he nodded home an Andy Yiadom cross at the far post.
Swansea City head coach Russell Martin is bracing himself for a summer spent fighting off interest for the club’s 20-goal striker Joel Piroe. The Dutchman scored two stunning goals in his side’s 2-1 victory over Derby County on Saturday to become the first Swans player since Oli McBurnie three years ago to reach 20 goals in all competitions in a season. The 22-year-old joined the Swans for a bargain £1m from PSV Eindhoven last summer, but already looks worth 10 times that figure after a stunning debut season in the Championship.
Steve Morison is hoping ‘the curse’ of the Manager of the Month award came early for him as he looks to move on from the derby double defeat last weekend. The fledgling Bluebirds boss was awarded the March award as Championship manager of the month earlier this week after masterminding 10 points for his club in March. Then came the crushing blow last weekend of a 4-0 home defeat to arch-rivals Swansea City that enabled them to become the first team in 110 years to complete a league double in the south Wales derby.
Lucy Packer could well end up singing both anthems before the England v Wales TikTok Six Nations match kicks-off at Kingsholm today. The 26-year-old Harlequins scrum-half will rightly feel proud about making her first start for the Red Roses as they chase yet another Grand Slam. But she could so easily have been playing in the red of Wales as they chase a first Triple Crown in 13 years.
By Matthew Burgess Less than 24 hours before their penultimate home game of the regular season, the Cardiff Devils confirmed the shock departure of head coach Jarrod Skalde. A brief statement released by the club on Friday night shed little light on the circumstances around Skalde’s departure, except to confirm that assistant coaches Brodie Dupont […]
