By Harry Corish Former long-distance runner and Olympian Steve Brace – who ran in the 1992 and 1996 summer Olympics – believes volunteers are the bedrock for everything Run 4 Wales achieves. It is these volunteers who give their hard work and time to allow this charitable organisation to continue its good work promoting physical […]
By Stuart Taylor “I’m off for a quiet pint – followed by fifteen noisy ones,” said former Bath and England prop Gareth Chilcott. The quote is pretty much the embodiment of how people view rugby’s relationship with alcohol. It is a relationship that has stood the test of time. Indeed both have been good for […]
Rhys Jones has described being selected for a third Commonwealth Games as his “gold medal moment”. Anything else he achieves on the Alexander Stadium track in Birmingham this summer will be a bonus, says the para sprinter.
Adam Beard has described his second-row colleague Alun Wyn Jones as “the ultimate professional” ahead of Wales’ South Africa tour. Jones has made a world record 162 Test match appearances for Wales and the British and Irish Lions. A shoulder injury and two operations hampered him this season, though, and he has only featured once […]

So, the Ryan Giggs Wales era has officially ended. It was an announcement which almost certainly represents a full-stop conclusion to the strained 30-year association between the Cardiffian and his national football team. The word “officially” is important here: in both practical and emotional terms Robert Page is already Wales manager.
Profits made from Wales qualifying for the World Cup – expected to be around £4m – will go into improving grassroots facilities, the Football Association of Wales have pledged. The overall commercial revenue from Wales reaching their first finals of the tournament for 64 years could be at least £10m, it has been estimated. But the guaranteed part of that income – which comes from the FIFA prize money pot – will go straight into benefitting the game at lower levels.
By Harry Corish Wales football manager Rob Page believes he has seen the future for a bucket hat-wearing young generation being inspired to get active, passionate and knowledgeable about the power of sport. Having guided his country to the World Cup finals for the first time in 64 years, Page is convinced of the effect […]

Wayne Pivac insists Wales are up to the “ultimate challenge” of facing world champions South Africa three times in their own back yard. Two of those matches will be played at altitude and the Springboks, who are also ranked number one in the world, have a formidable home record. But Pivac – last seen in a post-match interview room after Wales were humbled at home by Italy in the Six Nations – is relishing the challenge.

The reshuffle will mean that Ryan will continue on the Dragons’ board, but the coaching responsibilities will now rest in the hands of Flanagan. The former […]
S4C will remain the home of Welsh domestic football for the next four years. The broadcaster has reached an agreement with the Football Association of Wales for exclusive coverage of the domestic men’s, women’s leagues and the Under 21 international matches until 2026. A total of 35 games per season will be shown on Sgorio, from the JD Cymru Premier, JD Welsh Cup and Nathaniel MG League Cup.
Poppy Stickler will head to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham next month on a high after clinching a stunning silver medal at her first World Challenge Cup appearance. The Cardiff teenager capped a dream week by marking her first FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup appearance with a superb second place for her floor exercise at the latest series event in Koper, Slovenia. Stickler, who has just turned 16, was also making her senior bow for Great Britain and had qualified in second place for Sunday’s floor final.
Ryan Giggs has expressed his sadness that he will not be at the 2022 World Cup after standing down as Wales manager with immediate effect. But he insists his managerial career is not over and says he intends to return to the touchline elsewhere. By Harry Corish Despite an agonising loss in the final to Australia, Gerwyn Price has vowed to come back stronger next year and win Wales another darts World Cup. After winning the World Cup in 2020, Johnny Clayton and ‘The Iceman’ Price were looking to secure more silverware after easing through the earlier rounds against […]
Nick Williams’ globetrotting career might have come to an end, but the former Junior All Black is concerned with the direction his former club Cardiff are heading in. Prior to his retirement in 2020 the gigantic No 8 experienced professional rugby in New Zealand, Ireland, Italy, and Wales, respectively. In total Williams represented the Auckland Blues, Munster, Aironi, Ulster, and Cardiff but it is the Welsh capital he now calls home. Williams left an indelible impact at the Arms Park, and it is no coincidence Cardiff emerged victorious in 59 percent of the games he started, and only had a 14 percent win ratio when the New Zealander was absent.
Russell Martin considers Swansea City have made a very shrewd investment in Harry Darling – a player the coach reckons is heading for the very top. The Swans are understood to have paid MK Dons £1.3m for 22-year-old centre back Darling, who was a key player for the Dons last season as they reached the League One play-offs. A number of clubs – rumoured to include Sheffield United and Chelsea – were also interested in signing Darling, who fits the Martin mould as player comfortable in possession who has excellent passing skills.
Geraint Thomas is ready for another crack at winning the Tour de France after underlining his return to form with victory at the Tour de Suisse. The Welshman, who won cycling’s biggest race four years ago, says he is ready to lead Ineos Grenadiers after doubts all year over whether he would be the team’s main man. That status would leave Thomas well-place to battle for his second Tour de France title at the age of 36 after he proved in Switzerland he is back to full fitness following injury issues earlier in the season.
