Osian Pryce maintains his strong challenge for the 2022 British Rally Championship title after finishing runner-up in the Voyonic Grampian Forest Rally. It was the second time in as many years that the Machynlleth-born driver had finished second on the Aberdeenshire forestry event, as he and co-driver Noel O’Sullivan enjoyed another fast and trouble-free run in their Demon Tweeks-backed Melvyn Evans Motorsport-prepared Volkswagen Polo GTI R5. Welsh Fencing is celebrating a highly successful Senior Commonwealth Championships in which Wales won four medals, including gold for Gemma Collis. The London event – which saw teams from all over the Commonwealth compete in a sport that used to be part of the Games itself – yielded a gold, two silvers and a bronze for Wales. Leading the way was para fencer Collis, who took gold in the wheelchair women’s foil, category A competition.
Non Stanford has admitted she surprised herself when she brought the curtain down on her brilliant international triathlon career by becoming European champion. Wales’ biggest name in the sport went out in a blaze of glory at the weekend, by finishing first at Munich’s multi-sports European Championships. Medi Harris’s breakthrough summer now has a golden glow after Great Britain were crowned champions in the women’s 4 x 100m freestyle relay at the European Aquatics Championships. The Welsh swimmer had already taken silver in the 4 x 200m freestyle team in Rome to add to her Commonwealth Games bronze medal for Wales in the women’s 100m backstroke in Birmingham. Now, she has won three medals in two weeks and has the prospect of individual glory after making it through to the semi-finals of the 100m backstroke, having already finished fifth in the 50m backstroke final.
Mahlon Romeo has told his Cardiff City teammates they must set higher standards if they want to continue their impressive start to the Championship season. Cardiff City boss Steve Morison believes his young striker Isaak Davies was hung out to dry in the recent transfer stalemate with Burnley. A fee of £2.5m was allegedly offered by last season’s Premier League fall guys to Cardiff for the 20-year-old earlier this week and was immediately turned down by the Bluebirds. But Morison believes the way in which the deal was aired in public has left the player with a burden to carry when he returns to action after recovering from a knee injury.

Newport County assistant manager Carl Serrant believes his team’s notable EFL Cup win at Luton Town underlines the growing depth in the Exiles’ squad.
