By Tom Prosser Welsh football star Jess Fishlock says “It’s Heart-breaking to see the abuse aimed at female footballers who are playing purely for their love of the game”- this has led to The Football Association of Wales and the Welsh Government joining forces to tackling online hate towards girls and women. “Trying to put someone down because of something they love, is not big, smart or funny,” explains Fishlock, who is Wales’ most capped footballer. “I always say that people should think about how the person receiving the abuse could be affected before sharing and I’m glad to have worked with my Cymru teammates and the FAW to further educate others on what is and isn’t acceptable online.”

Wales women will begin life without head coach Jayne Ludlow at a training camp next week. The 26-strong squad will begin preparations at the Vale Resort in Hensol for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifying campaign.

Wales international Megan Wynne has taken the first steps of her recovery from knee surgery after tearing her anterior cruciate ligament. The 27-year-old has revealed she has run for the first time – 14 weeks after the op having suffered the injury in August.

Wales’s Women’s football has agreed a landmark three-year deal with Boots – the biggest commercial agreement in women’s sport in Wales. The partnership will take-in the upcoming 2019 Women’s World Cup in France and the 2021 Women’s European Championships in England.

Loren Dykes could join the 100 club after being named in the Wales women squad for the friendly with the Czech Republic in Newport on April 4. The Bristol City defender has won 99 caps and will become only the second player to reach the century – joining Jess Fishlock – if she plays at Rodney Parade.

With 42 international goals already to her credit, it seemed odds-on that she would calmly thread the ball past the giant Melisa Envera in the Bosnian goal. But she went for power rather than placement, and the two strides forward taken by Envera enabled her to make a vital 56th minute save to keep her side in the game.

Helen Ward believes Wales have wised-up on the mean streets of international football. The Watford striker is set to earn her 71st cap against Bosnia-Herzegovina at Swansea City’s Liberty Stadium on Thursday night, where Jayne Ludlow’s side can take another big stride towards World Cup qualification. Wales currently sit second in Group One, with two further games remaining – both at home – against Russia and England.
