Three Welsh Canaries . . . And One Beautiful Night In Nineties Munich

Remember elite European football in the early 1990s? There were dreadlocked Dutchmen, dubious hair-styled Germans, and three blokes from Wales who all played for Norwich. Owen Morgan can still see them all. Watching the re-run of Wales’ historic 1991 win over world champions Germany the other day brought back many fond memories from that fantastic night. Ian Rush’s unforgettable winner, big Neville’s Southall’s stunning saves and the cacophony of whistles in the final few minutes imploring the referee to blow up, were just a few of the more obvious ones.

The Day Curt Crossed The Great Divide . . . And Got Booed By Both Cardiff And Swansea Fans

With both Cardiff City and Swansea City mothballed, it’s time to look back again into the archives. Former Wales international Alan Curtis is one of the few players to have represented both clubs as he tells Terry Phillips. Rhondda-born Alan Curtis played a major role for Cardiff City when they won a promotion and cup double more than 30 years ago, while he served Swansea City for over four decades. Wales international Curtis made the move from Southampton to the Bluebirds and slotted into a team that went up from the old Division Four and won the Welsh Cup.

Jayne Ludlow’s Wales Bid Put On Hold As Finals Are Shifted

Jayne Ludlow’s Wales team are going to have to wait another year if they are to appear at their first major football tournament finals. The Wales manager has guided her team to within sight of qualification for the Euro 2021 competition, but those finals have now been put back until 2022 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Strangely, the announcement did not come from governing body UEFA, but from the Danish Football Association (DBU) on Wednesday night.

David Brooks Plans To Make The Most Of Euros Going Into Extra Time

David Brooks has set his sights on making a major impact for Wales at next year’s delayed Euro 2020 finals. The Wales forward might have struggled to make this summer’s tournament, originally scheduled for June, due to a serious ankle injury which has meant he has not played a game this season. But the re-scheduling of the finals means Bournemouth star Brooks, as well as injured Wales teammate Joe Allen, have 12 months to get back to their best.

Swansea City Want Future Wales Matches To Replace Austria Setback

Swansea City believe “huge interest” in Wales’ cancelled game with Austria will encourage Ryan Giggs and his players to visit the Liberty Stadium in the future. Wales’ friendly with fellow Euro 2020 finalists Austria, which was due to be played in Swansea last Friday night, was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic. The game would have marked the return of the national team to Wales’ ‘second city’ for the first time in seven years, with Croatia the last international visitors there in March 2013.

Brian Flynn And The Day He Came Close To Being Wales’ Less Than Towering 5ft 4in Centre-Half

As the great sporting hibernation goes on, Dai Sport is again forced to raid its horded supplies from the past. This time, Tom Jenkins looks at the Wales national football team who just happen to celebrate their 144th birthday this week. One man who spans a fair chunk of that history is former Wales midfielder and manager Brian Flynn. Brian Flynn was almost an international record-breaker before scoring arguably the greatest-ever Wales goal on his first full appearance. On the 144th anniversary of Wales’ first fixture – a 4-0 defeat to Scotland in Glasgow on March 25, 1876 – Flynn’s finish against the ‘Tartan Army’ in the 1975 British Home Championship stands tall in the Welsh pantheon of great goals.

Feed The Moore And He Will Score . . . But Kieffer Says Wigan Goals Must Come Before Wales Glory

Kieffer Moore is a man who certainly cannot be accused of resting on his laurels. The Wigan Athletic frontman made a huge impact for Wales during the second half of their successful UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying campaign, netting twice in four games and providing an attacking focal point for Ryan Giggs’ side. Most punters would agree that the 27 year-old’s exploits in a red shirt over the last six months have already secured his place on the plane for this year’s finals, which are scheduled to be held across Europe.

Wales Starlet Robbie Burton Insists Leaving Arsenal Is Right Path

Wales U21 star Robbie Burton insists he has made the right move in leaving Arsenal to join Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb. The deal, reported to be worth £800,000 to the Gunners, was still dependent on the 20-year-old midfielder agreeing to become the first British player to move to the Croatian capital club. Burton is viewed as a rising star within the Wales set-up and seemed to be on the verge of a first team breakthrough at Arsenal during Unai Emery’s time as manager.
