Graham Potter claimed size matters after Swansea City were again muscled out of more Championship points at Nottingham Forest. Despite leading 1-0 late on and having far more of the ball, there was a sense of inevitability when Forest scored twice from set-pieces to turn the game around. It was exactly the same as happened in their recent defeat at West Brom and it appears teams have now realised Potter’s side tend to crumble under physical pressure – especially from set-pieces.
Swansea City have revealed they made £1.1m from their FA Cup run which was ended in controversial fashion by Manchester City at the quarter-final stage. The club – who are about to start making redundancies throughout the non-playing side of their operation – have calculated they made over the million mark from prize money, TV revenue and the £250,000 EFL Divisional Prize Fund. That third payment was split with Millwall and awarded for being the Championship clubs that went furthest in the competition.
Oli McBurnie is poised to return for Swansea City this weekend after recovering from his recent illness. The Scotland striker missed the club’s last three matches – all lost with just two goals scored – against Norwich City, West Brom and Manchester City – due to a bug which medical staff were unable to identify, but has now been passed fit for the trip to Nottingham Forest. It’s a major boost for the Swans who could find themselves just eight points above the Championship relegation zone if they lose again, with nine matches still remaining.
Daniel James has yet to sign a new contract with Swansea City but is happy to let his football attract admirers from wider afield. The Wales hero is still in discussions with his current club, but any deal will not reduce the likelihood of the Swans deciding to sell him for anything up to £20m this summer. The winger’s value is rising steeply after Premier League clubs were given more evidence of his talent when he struck a superb winner as Wales opened their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign with a 1-0 win over Slovakia in Cardiff on Sunday.
Wrexham have strengthened their Vanarama National League squad with two new signings – and both could make their Dragons’ debut against Hartlepool away on Saturday. Norwich City’s teenage striker Anthony Spyrou has signed on loan, while former Swansea City midfield player Kemy Agustien has arrived at the Racecourse as a free agent. “My main attributes […]
Merthyr Town head to Buckinghamshire this afternoon still planning a big finish to their EvoStik Southern League season. The Martyrs take on Beaconsfield Town, who won the Southern League Division One East title and promotion last season, on Tuesday at their Holloways Park ground. Manager Gavin Williams and his team are adrift of the play-off […]
Graham Potter chose not to get involved in the missing VAR controversy and left it to Pep Guardiola to shrug his shoulders at the nonsensical rules that may have cost Swansea City a place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup. Of course, Manchester City were so superior in the final half an hour – as they came from 2-0 behind to beat the Swans 3-2 at the Liberty Stadium – they may well have scored two perfectly vaild goals instead of the pair of dodgy ones that caused such a furore. But Potter declined to question a system that uses video technology at Premier League stadia, but not those equally well-equipped that were in the top division until last season.
Teenage Swansea City goalkeeper Scott Reed helped out Merthyr Town in their 3-1 EvoStik Southern League defeat against Poole Town in Dorset. The Martyrs were left without a goalkeeper when Lewis Webb was injured during their home defeat against Dorchester Town with outfield player Cavan Williams taking over. Defender Matthew Harris and centre-forward Ryan Prosser […]
Graham Potter has left no stone unturned in his preparation for today’s FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City. He drove to the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night to watch Pep Guardiola’s men play Schalke in the Champions League and then joined up with his squad in Birmingham that night ahead of the game with West Brom the next day.
Cardiff City have five players in the Wales under-19 team for their Uefa Championships elite round challenge later this month. Goalkeeper George Ratcliffe, Ryan Reynolds, Sion Spence, Sam Bowen and Dan Griffiths are the young Bluebirds included, while Swansea City are represented by Ben Cabango and Brandon Cooper. Jay Foulston, the young Newport County defender […]
The New Saints 2, Cardiff Met University 1 Tomos Williams and James Parry scored the goals for TNS in their FAW Youth Cup semi-final against Cardiff Met University. Saints’ victory earns them a place in the final for the first time and they take on holders Swansea City with the date and venue to be […]
Bersant Celina has admitted his botched penalty cost Swansea City any hope of gaining points at West Brom – but insisted he would step up to take another. The Swans midfielder held up his hands over the extraordinary error after his team crashed to a 3-0 defeat at The Hawthorns on Wednesday night. The visitors were trailing 1-0 when they won a penalty just before half-time, but Celina’s attempt to casually chip the ball into the goal _ Panenka style – ended with him slipping and the ball rolling a couple of yards to the right.
