Martin’s team have won just once in their opening five games of the Championship campaign, are now winless in their last seven home games, and have lost key defender Joel Latibeaudiere for at least three months with a shoulder injury.

Forget The “Punched Balls” . . . Swansea City Boss Russell Martin Insists He Should Take The Rap

Russell Martin has told Swansea City fans he takes responsibility for the collapse of their two-goal lead against Millwall that cost them two precious Championship points. The Swans head coach insists the collective lack of authority that resulted in two own goals in injury time – and a 2-2 home draw – is down to him. Joe Allen’s know-how will prove a vital asset for Swansea City this coming season, head coach Russell Martin has insisted. The Wales midfielder, who last week sealed a return to his boyhood club from Stoke City, was part of the Swans squad that clinched promotion to the Premier League in 2008 and Martin reckons that kind of experience will prove invaluable, alongside the playing abilities that still make him a virtual certain starter for his country.
