Matt Grimes has issued a staunch defence of Swansea’s topsy-turvy season and has insisted the club are on the right path. The Swans’ 5-1 midweek thrashing by Fulham followed back-to-back victories for Russell Martin’s side and was indicative of a campaign where consistency of either results or performance has been absent. Tuesday’s defeat has left the club in 16th place, just one place above rivals Cardiff City who could go above the Swans on Saturday if the Bluebirds win at home to Preston and Grimes’ side lose at Blackpool.
Fulham boss Marco Silva has told Swansea City the justification for Ryan Manning’s red card is evident in the wound on the leg of Wales star Harry Wilson. Manning was sent off for a tackle on Fulham’s Wilson in the 42nd minute of Tuesday night’s home 5-1 thrashing for the Swans. The score was goalless at the time and as well as disputing that the challenge was worthy of a straight red card, Swans head coach Russell Martin also claimed the dismissal ruined what had been an even contest up to that point.
By Paul Jones Russell Martin has declared he should take the rap for Swansea City’s shocking away form. The Swans head coach has apologised to fans who made the long trip to Sheffield United to see their side lose 4-0 – their third straight away defeat. Martin’s team were fortunate to only concede four times, […]
By David Williams Joel Piroe has been backed to resume his goalscoring streak after Russell Martin admitted he had placed an unfair burden on him at Swansea City. Dutch striker Piroe scored the Swans’ third goal in their 3-1 comeback victory over Bristol City on Sunday, a result that took them above the visitors into […]
By Paul Jones Russell Martin has vowed to undertake a major summer shake-up of his Swansea City squad after any lingering hopes of a play-off push appeared to be extinguished by defeat at Stoke City. The Swansea head coach admitted his current crop of players are simply not up to the rigours of a 46-match […]
By Gareth James Stoke City manager Michael O’Neil intends to make it a repeat dose of the medicine he dished out to Swansea City in August when the two clubs meet on Tuesday night. The Swans visit the Potteries with painful memories of the 3-1 home defeat inflicted by O’Neil’s side back in August – […]
By Fraser Watson The game was merely seconds old when the ball arrived at the feet of Blackburn skipper Darragh Lenihan. Deep in the right-back position, he shaped to launch a ball up-field, only for Jamie Paterson to rush forward and hurl himself in the way. The block came to nothing as the ball deflected […]
Swansea City manager Russell Martin has revealed that Jamie Paterson will return to the first-team fray following his side’s 1-0 home defeat to Luton Town. Paterson, so influential for the Swans pre-Christmas, has missed the six last games after seemingly falling out with the club over the terms of his one-year contract extension, that was triggered by his employers earlier this month. It seemed inevitable the 31-year-old would be heading out of South Wales in the transfer window, but despite interest from QPR, a move never materialised.
Swansea City appear resigned to the fact that Jamie Paterson has played his final game for the club. But the midfielder – who has been the subject of two unsuccessful bids from Queens Park Rangers – will not be allowed to leave in this transfer window unless the London club improve their offer. It is understood that the Swans want £750,000 for Paterson, who head coach Russell Martin had hoped would have revered his decision to down tools.
Russell Martin has praised his Swansea City players’ character as they made it three matches unbeaten in the past 10 days. The Swans head coach was happy enough to take a point from a 0-0 draw at promotion-chasing Queens Park Rangers, which backed up a weekend victory over Preston. The visitors had midfielder Flynn Downes sent off in added time after a clash with Charlie Austin, but the 10-men hung on to cut the gap between themselves and sixth-placed Huddersfield to 12 points with three games still in hand.
By Andrew Penman Russell Martin has promised to add more firepower to his Swansea City squad in the final few days of the transfer window. The Swans head coach wants to bring in more competition for 13-goal top scorer Joel Piroe. Martin’s side have recovered well from a poor run of results to respond with […]
Russell Martin has paid tribute to Swansea City’s fans, claiming they inspired his team to victory after returning to their home stadium for the first time in seven weeks. Ryan Manning’s superb long-range strike was enough to seal all three points for Swansea as they overcame Preston 1-0. Manning’s 51st-minute strike was reward for a much-improved display after the break from Martin’s men and the result leaves them sitting just behind mid-table in the Championship, with four points gathered from back-to-back unbeaten games.
