The draw for the Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 takes place in Australia on Wednesday, with Wales among 24 teams in the hat.

It will be a new format with 24 teams across six pools of four teams.

  • Debut: v Ireland on 25 May, 1987

  • Appearances: 10 – 1987-2023

  • Record: Played 49 – Won 30

> Wales topped their pool for a second consecutive tournament in 2023 – and fourth time in total after 1987 and 1999.

> Wales have never been drawn in a pool with France, Hong Kong China, Romania, Scotland, Spain, USA or Zimbabwe.

> They have not played Chile, while the last time they faced Spain and Zimbabwe in a test was in the 1990s.

> Wales have faced Fiji at the last five tournaments but cannot meet them at RWC 2027 pool stages as they are both in Band 2.

> Fiji and Australia are Wales’ most-common pool opponent with five meetings.

> They have not faced Italy, New Zealand or Tonga since the tournament was last held in Australia in 2003.

> Wales have only been drawn in a pool with Ireland once, back in 1995.
