Welsh women’s artistic gymnasts Ruby Evans and Evie Flage-Donovan have been backed to make the most of their first Olympic experience. The pair have been selected as part of Team GB for the 2022 Summer European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) taking place in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia this month. The Clwb Cymru Caerdydd duo, both 15, are among six British gymnasts who are part of a squad of 40 young athletes who will compete for Team GB at the event from 24 to 30 July.

A trio of Welsh gymnasts bidding to reach the Commonwealth Games this summer have all been named in the Great Britain women’s artistic senior squad for 2022. Jea Maracha, Mali Morgan and Poppy Stickler are in the 15-strong British women’s senior squad. It follows the Cardiff trio’s performances at the Artistic British Championships in Liverpool at the end of last month – in what is their debut year as senior gymnasts.

Welsh Gymnastics are celebrating having 15 gymnasts selected for British squads for 2019. A magnificent seven girls have been picked for the GB Home Nations Squad, while three more have made it into the GB Performance Pathway Squad.
