Geraint Thomas will try and roll back the years on Thursday as he bids to win a second gold medal for Wales – eight years after his first. The Welsh cycling legend finished on the podium at last month’s Tour de France but the 36-year-old will only have gold on his mind when he competes in the time trial at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Back in 2014, Thomas won gold in a red jersey in the road race at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, having already picked up a bronze in the individual time trial event.

Ever since Birmingham was announced host city of the 2022 Commonwealth Games, would-be Team Wales members have been anticipating the thrill of competing in front of friends, families and supporters.
Wales internationals Ffion Tynan and James Ashfield claimed the Welsh Amateur titles in contrasting fashions at Pennard. A total of eight Welsh athletes have been selected to represent Great Britain at next month’s European Athletics Championships in Munich. Marathon runners Andy Davies and Rosie Edwards had been pre-selected for what will be the third major championships of this summer. They have now been joined by Jeremiah Azu, Joe Brier, Melissa Courtney-Bryant, Jake Heyward, Bethan Davies and Heather Lewis in the 115-strong GB team.
