Zoe Backstedt Czech Mates Her Cyclo-Cross Rivals With Stunning World Cup Victory

Zoe Backstedt launched her UCI cyclo-cross World Cup season off to a stunning start with victory in the Czech Republic. The 16-year-old from Pontyclun took victory for Britain by 11 seconds in Tabor in the inaugural junior women’s race.

The 16-year-old from Pontyclun took victory for Britain by 11 seconds in Tabor in the inaugural junior women’s WC race.

Backstedt completed the 12.95km course in 38 minutes 18 seconds to finish well clear of her rivals.

Backstedt, whose older sister Elynor is regaining fitness after a crash while out riding near Cardiff last year, triumphed from Luxembourg’s Marie Schreiber.

Italy’s Lucia Bramati was one min five secs adrift in third place.

National cyclo-cross champ Backstedt’s victory left her top of the World Cup standings on 40 points with the next round in Namur, Belgium, on 20 December.

Backstedt has joined top Belgian Cyclocross team Tormans-Acrog for this season, making the move after two seasons with Storey Racing where she amassed 120 wins.
