Zoe Backstedt powered to victory in the title decider in Shrewsbury to be crowned National Cyclo-Cross Trophy Series Under 16s champion.

The Pontyclun-based prospect lifted her arms in delight as she crossed the finish line in Shropshire after her fourth successive win in the series.

But Backstedt still had a short wait before it was confirmed that she had won the overall title.

The Storey Racing rider had gone into the final race trailing rival Mollie Couzens by 32 points, but the victory was enough to snatch the overall crown.

Backstedt’s win was followed by fellow Welsh and Storey Racing rider Ffion James whose victory in the women’s race left her third overall in the series.

And it added to the success story within the Backstedt family with older sister Elynor having won World Time Trial Bronze in the junior women’s race in Austria last summer.

The sisters come from cycling stock – Dad, Magnus, won the Paris-Roubaix classic as well as stage wins in the Giro D’Italia and Tour de France.

And Mum, Megan, won the British road race title and competed for Wales at the Commonwealth Games.
