Three Welsh players have qualified for the Rhiwbina PSA Welsh Open Squash quarter-finals.

Peter Creed, who plays out of the host club, Emyr Evans and Owain Taylor are in the last eight along with Welsh Wizards’ player Edmon Lopez.

The $11,000 Challenger 10 tournament, featuring a number of players ranked among the World’s top 100, ends when the final is played this Saturday.

University of Nottingham student Taylor beat fifth-seeded Finn Miko Aijanen in a five game marathon which lasted almost one and a half hours.

Taylor fought tenaciously before emerging the winner 11-13, 12-10, 7-11, 12-10, 11-8.

Emyr Evans overcame Harry Falconer in straight games, while Creed defeated fellow Welshman Elliott Morris Devred 11-5, 12-10, 14-12.

Top four seeds Richie Fallows (England), Lopez (Spain), Creed (Wales) and Benjamin Auubert (France) are through to the quarter-finals.

Results, second round: Richie Fallows beat Hugo Varela 11-7, 11-4, 11-3 (45mins), Yuri Farnetti (Italy) beat Matias Tuomi (Finland) 11-6, 11-7, 11-9 (39 mins), Abhay Singh (India) beat Miles Jenkins (England) 11-9, 12-10, 11-4 (34 mins); Peter Creed (Wales) beat Elliott Morris Devred (Wales) 11-5, 12-10, 14-12 (48 mins); Benjamin Aubert (France) beat James Peach (England) 10-12, 11-5, 11-4, 11-3 (38 mins), Owain Taylor (Wales) beat Miko Aijanen (Finland) 11-13, 12-10, 7-11, 12-10, 11-8 (87 mins),

Emyr Evans (Wales) beat Harry Falconer (England) 9-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11-8 (53 mins), Edmon Lopez (Spain) beat Stuart Macgregor England) 11-7, 11-1, 11-2 (24 mins).

Quarter-finals (first two matches 7.15pm, second two 8pm): Richie Fallows (1st seed) v Yuri Farnetti, Abhay Singh (7) v Peter Creed (3), Benjamin Auubert (4) v Owain Taylor, Emyr Evans (6) v Edmon Lopez (2).

European under-15 squash: Wales v Hungary.

Welsh junior teams are in Eindhoven competing in the European Championships.
