Welsh Ski Duo Get Paralympics Call

Welsh skiers Chris Lloyd and Menna Fitzpatrick have been named in Britain’s squad for the Paralympics in March.

Pontypridd-born Lloyd was left paralysed from the neck down after a rally car accident in 2011.

He has defied doctors’ advice to carry on skiing and book his place in the team bound for Pyeongchang in South Korea.

Lloyd said: “Being selected to represent Great Britain at the Paralympic Games is nothing short of a dream come true.

“I’m excited to be able to ski for my country in the sport I love on the Paralympic stage. It’s an honour I’ve worked extremely hard for over the past six years .

“There’s a lot more hard work to come over the next few months and I can’t wait to get out on the slopes in South Korea. Having been selected, my main aim now is to do my family proud.”

Macclesfield-based star Fitzpatrick, 18, is visually impaired and will be joined by guide Jen Kehoe.

The duo became the first Britons to win the overall VI World Cup title in 2016 and last month claimed four medals at the first World Cup of the season.
