Welsh Fire’s David Lloyd Looking To End Hundred Campaign With A Bang

Welsh Fire’s David Lloyd insists the Welsh Fire are looking to ‘go out with a bang’ as they take on Shane Warne’s London Spirit at Sophia Gardens on Wednesday evening.

“It’s been a difficult competition for us,” explained Lloyd who plays his county cricket with Glamorgan.

“We’ve been unfortunate with injuries and losing Jonny Bairstow to England after two games wasn’t helpful.

“A few things have gone against us particularly with a lot of replacements having to come in half-way through the tournament.

“I think we needed more of a settled squad.”

Both, Welsh Fire and London Spirit can’t qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament.

But, Lloyd is hoping to use this final game as an opportunity to leave a last impression with the coaching staff in readiness for next years competition.

“I knew coming into the competition that we’ve got some seriously good players.

“My mind was just focused on learning off them.

“I’d like to go out with a bang tomorrow but it is what it is.

“It’s about playing without fear and trusting your game.

“I like to get in and get going, I’ve never been great waiting to come into bat so all that’s a lot clearer as an opener.

“It’s nice to now be settled as an opener across all formats, It definitely makes things easier from a mental point of view.

Lloyd, who was born in North Wales, is delighted that more fans will be present for Welsh Fire’s final game in this years competition.

“To have our last fixture at home in front of a crowd of 10,000 will be exciting for us.

“The lads are looking forward to our final game and we are going to give it our all.

“Overall, It’s been exciting to be involved in a new team, a new tournament and a new format.”
