Welsh Ace Edward Vaughan, Aged 11, Takes Win Total To 50

Aberthin’s Edward Vaughan, aged 11, has set a record by riding the winners of 50 pony races.

Edward, son of Tim and Abbey Vaughan, won both the 138cms open pony race and the 148cms open pony race at the Golden Valley Hunt Point-To-Point Steeplechases, Bredwardine.
In the former his nine-year-old bay mare Little Replacement easily beat Dough Boy, ridden by 13-year-old Marc de La Sayette from Cambridge.
And in the 148cms race, riding eight-year-old grey mare White Water, Edward beat Lucy Aspell, the 11-year-old daughter of winning Grand National jockey Leighton Aspell on Tiny Dancer.

Roger, celebrating his 70th birthday, admitted to having a nice bet on his horse which won by seven lengths from Chu Chu Percy.
In the men’s open race Green Winter, ridden by Zac Baker, got home by a short head from the odds-on Now Ben, ridden by Alex Edwards.

Wales’ Ben Jones won the restricted on French-bred Beni Light and the club members on Midnight Folie.

Both are trained in Tenby by Amber Mathias and the latter was Ben’s 19th winner of the season.
Two horses went to post for the farmers’ race – the odds-on Buffalo Sabre and 14-year-old Galbally King. The latter won by three lengths after the pair had jumped the last fence together.

Well ridden by Paul Sankey, who was carrying 10lb overweight and chalking up his first winner. Paul is rather tall for a jockey as he is 6ft, 7ins in his socks!

Merthyr Mawr’s Jack Tudor, riding Quite Remarkable, finished five lengths behind Cashmoll in the mares and fillies race, but he had a double in Devon.

He rode Jack Seniergues (open maiden) and North George (mixed open) at the Dulverton West Foxhounds meeting, Bratton Down.

Both are trained by his father Jonathan Tudor, who has also been sending out winners left, right and centre.

Cowbridge rider Byron Moorcroft  won the intermediate race on Luke Price’s Matts Legacy.
Riders, owners and trainers from the Vale will be travelling to Lower Machen, Rudry on Saturday for the popular Tredegar Farmers Hunt Steeplechases which will see the end of the South Wales and Monmouthshire season.
Rumour has it that this could be the last meeting staged at the venue, which is one of the most popular racecourses throughout the land.

This would be a big blow to the sport as enthusiasts from all over the country visit this picturesque racecourse.
