Warriors Waste No Time In Claiming Local Bragging Rights

Bristol Apache 21 – South Wales Warriors 46 

The South Wales Warriors took the honours in American Football’s Severnside derby to stay undefeated after three games this season. 

The Warriors wasted no time after crossing the Severn Bridge and raced into a 21-0 lead in the first quarter. 

However the Apache, who were relegated from Division One last year, showed more resistance in the second quarter and made it to half-time without conceding any further points. 

The third quarter saw the Apache become the first team to score against the Warriors this season, with a converted touchdown, but the Welsh side also added a further seven points to their total. 

After the defences had taken hold of the middle period of the game the fourth quarter saw a scoring explosion with the Apache adding a further two scores but they still couldn’t match the Warriors for firepower who scored a further 18 points in the final period. 

Victory means the Warriors move alongside the Torbay Trojans at the top of the West Division and has also settled the issue of local bragging rights for the year. 

As teams in Division Two only play three of their five opponents in home and away fixtures the Warriors will not meet the Apache again during the regular season. The fixture list has puzzled Warriors coach Geraint Roberts as his team must still make long away trips to Torbay and Tuanton and have completed their fixtures against closest geographic rivals Bristol and the Worcestershire Black Knights. 

The Warriors now have a fortnight to recover before they host the Somerset Wyverns, in the first of back to back fixtures, at Llanharan on June 2.
