It is the largest competition in Welsh golf with regional qualifying leading to national finals, with leading Welsh company Clogau getting involved for the first time though they have helped golf development in Wales and also sponsor Ladies European Tour pro Amy Boulden.

Newport won this year’s Welsh Ladies Team Championships with 14-year-old Ffion Vineall sinking the winning putt at Wenvoe Castle golf club, as they defended the title in an all Monmouthshire final against St Pierre.

Ben Roberts, Managing Director, Clogau Gold of Wales, said, “We are delighted to be the inaugural sponsor for the Welsh Ladies team Championship and strengthen our relationship with Golf Union of Wales.

“It’s a somewhat unique opportunity that delivers on many levels. We’re proud to support Welsh Golf. Through our sponsorship we’ll promote mutual values of teamwork and excellence, building awareness with a team whose goals are so closely aligned with our own.

“We’re looking forward to the championship and also to awarding the lucky winners with our beautiful jewellery.”

Golf Union of Wales championships manager, David Wilson, added, “We are delighted that Clogau Gold have become the title sponsors of the Welsh Ladies Team Championships.

“It is a new relationship with the Golf Union and great to have some sponsorship for what is our biggest event in terms of the numbers of players in qualifying.

“Clogau will be involved in the sponsorship of the event and the prizes on offer, so I am sure the players will enjoy that and match our excitement that they are getting involved.

“The Welsh Ladies Team Championships is for clubs all round Wales, it is a great competition to run and it is wonderful to have a company with the stature of Clogau Gold who will add an extra dimension.

“They will provide some of the prizes and I am sure the competitors will be delighted about that, to have the chance to compete for some really special prizes in such a prestige championship.

“We added a Plate competition last year which went down really well, it added an extra day to the championship, so it is an event which is going from strength to strength – hopefully the players and the teams all feel the same way.”

Teams enter three regional finals of the Welsh Ladies Team Championships, with the top 32 qualifying for the national finals, first round losers going into a Plate competition.
