Tutton’s Second Medal Hopes Dashed In London As She Sets Sights On Rio

Chloe Tutton vowed to come back stronger after seeing her hopes of a second European Championship medal dashed.

The Pontypridd-born swimmer finished sixth in the 200m breaststroke final in London having gone into Friday’s final with the fastest time.

Tutton’s time of two minutes 24.07 secs was slower than in her semi and meant she was unable to add to her brilliant bronze in the 100m breaststroke.

The 19-year-old said: “This has been an amazing experience even though I went slower than in the semi-final.

“I can learn a lot from what I’ve done and see what I can improve on and then come back stronger.”

But the experience will be crucial when the Cardiff-based swimmer heads to Brazil to compete in this summer’s Olympic Games.

Denmark’s world record holder and reigning champ Rikke Pedersen won the event in 2:21.69 with Spain’s Jessica Montero second (2:22.56) and Iceland’s Hrafnhildu Luthersdottir third in 2:22.56.

Tutton’s fellow Brit Molly Renshaw was just pipped for the bronze having led at 100m after clocking 2:23.18.

Swansea’s Georgia Davies qualified for Saturday’s 50m backstroke final with the third quickest time of 27.91secs.

Denmark’s Mile Nielsen went quickest in 27.73 with Britain’s Francesca Halsall second fastest with 27.80
