Jamaica international Latanya Wilson will not be returning to Celtic Dragons in 2021 after signing for Adelaide Thunderbirds.

The defender has opted to play in Australia this season having made her Vitality Netball Superleague debut for the Dragons in 2020.

“Although we’re disappointed not to have Latty back with us for #VNSL2021 we wish her all the best on her new Australian adventure!

“We know she will be a huge hit Down Under,” the Dragons said on twitter.

Wilson first represented Jamaica at the Netball World Youth Cup in 2017 and earnt her first selection as a senior Sunshine Girl at the start of 2020.

She will join fellow Jamaica international Shamera Sterling in the Adelaide outfit.

“Latanya made a strong start to the COVID-shortened 2020 season with the Dragons in the UK, demonstrating her tenacity and ability to influence a game,” Thunderbirds’ High Performance Manager Pitre Bourdon said.

“She’s definitely a hunter out on court and we love that she has the versatility to perform in all defensive positions. Latanya has great potential to have a real impact at SSN level and we can’t wait to start working with her.”

Wilson made two appearances for the Dragons last season, showing her tenacity as she was suspended after being sent off for dangerous play against Team Bath.

Latanya Wilson’s tenacity will be missed by the Dragons in 2021.

“I cannot wait to be in Adelaide to meet the team,” Wilson said.

“This is a great opportunity for me, and I can’t wait to get on court with the girls.”

The Dragons have already re-signed Wilson’s Jamaica team-mate Rebekah Robinson for the new season.
