Cardiff Devils welcome the ‘Professor, Christmas jumpers and Nottingham Panthers to their Viola Arena home rink on Cardiff Bay on Saturday.

The match is Devils’ only fixture of the weekend – they are at home against Belfast Giants in the Challenge Cup next Wednesday – and it is their first ever Christmas jumper game in partnership with Save the Children.

Sean McMonagle, nicknamed the ‘Professor’ in the Cardiff locker room, will sign posters of himself and pose for selfies after the match against Panthers, while Mike McNamee is the ‘shirt of his back’ player.

McNamee is on a 10-game point streak, scoring five goals and five assists in that run.

Belfast Giants were in action at Dundee Stars on Friday night, winning 4-2 to close in on leaders Sheffield Steelers and Devils.

Meet the ‘Professor’. The post-game signing on Saturday is Sean McMonagle.

Two goals in a little over three minutes eventually provided to be enough to earn Belfast two points in Scotland.

Brian Ward (31-49) put Giants ahead and Drydn Dow equalised.

Curtis Hamilton put Giants ahead again at 36-03 and then visitors were to lead by two at the break thanks to Jordan Smotherman’s goal 39-25.

The game was made safe through Patryk Wronka (53-31), although Kevin Dufour did pull the Stars back to within two (54-12).

Devils face a major test against Panthers on Saturday. The Nottingham team started slowly under new coach Tim Wallace, but are the league’s best team over the last 10 games and have moved themselves into the pack chasing the top places.

Former Devils sniper Guilaume Doucet works alongside Wallace and Panthers have steadily improved.
