The 20-year-old is unable to defend the British crown she won in spectacular style last year as she is competing for Britain on the track at the European Games in Belarus.

But she  is going out with a bang after claiming the scalp of Dutch ace Kirsten Wild on the Tour de Bretagne Feminin.

Roberts flashed past the multiple world and European track champ and two-time RideLondon Classic winner in the red, white and blue striped jersey to win the 121km fourth stage from Goueno to Loudeac.

The Carmarthen-born rider has shown her sprint speed already this season becoming the first rider to win three stages of the OVO Energy Tour series.

But winning a stage of a major women’s road race is a huge addition to her cycling cv underlining her status as one of Britain’s top prospects.

Roberts went into Sunday’s final stage in 13th spot.
