Tesni Evans faces old rival Sarah-Jane Perry for a place in the Manchester Open semi-finals.

The Rhyl-based player set-up a quarter-0final clash with the World No 6 from England after beating Holland’s Milou van der Heijden.

Evans, seeded six for the $76,000 tournament, triumphed 11-7, 11-9, 11-3 in 30 minutes against the world No 32.

The 26-year-old beat Perry – the third seed in Manchester – when they met at the European Team Championships earlier this month.

Then Evans came through in straight sets against the world No 6 while competing for Wales.

Perry booked her quarter-final place after seeing off eight-time World Champion Nicol David of Malaysia who is now 18 in the world rankings.

Evans reckons the tournament is another boost to the women’s game.

“The women’s tour is amazing at the moment. For us to have standalone events and show what we can do is really important and hopefully there’s more to come,” the Cardiff-born World No 9 said.
