Tesni Evans Aims To Cap High Rise Year With Gold Coast Medal

Having risen to 12th in the world squash rankings, Tesni Evans will travel to her second Commonwealth Games in April looking to shake-up the established order. There are five players ranked above her who can compete at the Gold Coast – the England trio of Laura Massaro (4), Sarah-Jane Perry (8) and Alison Waters (10) along with New Zealand’s Joelle King (9) and Hong Kong’s Annie Au (11) – but she has beaten Massaro and Waters on the professional circuit in the past three months.

Evans was knocked out in the last 16 of the singles in Glasgow four years ago and reached the quarter-finals of the doubles along with Deon Saffrey, who will also be travelling to her second Games.

Leading the men’s challenge will be No 41 world ranker Joel Makin, who will once again be joined by 58^th ranked Peter Creed. Both men went out in the second round in Glasgow, while Creed reached the quarter-finals in the doubles with David Evans.
