Team Wales Name 12 Weightlifters For Commonwealth Games

Twelve Welsh weightlifters have been picked for next April’s Commonwealth Games on Australia’s Gold Coast.

The Team Wales squad is made up of six male and six female lifters.

Competing in the men’s categories will be: Seth Casidsid (56kg), Gareth Evans (69kg), Harry Misangyi (85kg), Joshua Parry (94kg), Jordan Sakkas (105kg) and Rhodri West (+105kg).

The women weightlifters heading to the Gold Coast are: Hannah Powell (48kg), Catrin Jones (53kg), Christie Williams (58kg), Faye Pittman (69kg), Laura Hughes (75kg) and Tayla Howe (90kg).

Helen Phillips, Chair of the Commonwealth Games Wales Board said: “Congratulations to all of the weightlifters who have qualified and been selected to represent Team Wales at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

“Being chosen for Team Wales is testament to the athletes’ commitment, passion and dedication also to the excellent support of their coaches, families and national governing bodies. We wish them all the very best with their training for the Gold Coast.”

“The athletes have worked exceptionally hard to achieve selection. They are extremely proud to have the opportunity to represent their country in this forthcoming Games. I wish them every success in their final preparation and at Gold Coast.”
