Former World champion Stuart Bingham, from Basildon in Essex, has been a ton-up success at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff.

Bingham secured a place in the ManBetX Welsh Open Championship final thanks to a 6-2 win against 23-year-old professional snooker rookie Joe O’Connor.

It was a scrappy semi-final over the first couple of frames before Bingham ran into form and over the eight frames scored five century breaks, doubling his tally for the tournament.

By the end, Bingham was brimming with confidence and his fifth ton was an outstanding 125.

The reward for Bingham is a place in Sunday’s final when he will play Hossein Vafaei or Neil Robertson.

“I’ve had an amazing tournament, but I’m disappointed I didn’t perform in the semi-final,” said World number 103 O’Connor, who is from Leicester.

“I wasn’t really nervous, but it probably looked like that. It was just a bad day.

“But I defeated Kyren Wilson, Ding Junhui and John Higgins and they are result I must use to build confidence.”
