Non Stanford has been given the green light to continue focussing on the Commonwealth Games Triathlon after a crash in Abu Dhabi.

The Team Wales captain for the Games in Australia next month injured her wrist in the fall in the World Series opener on Friday.

But x-rays showed no sign of damage so Stanford – who finished 16th after getting back on her bike – can set her sights on the Gold Coast.

The 29-year-old said: “I landed on my wrist but didn’t really feel it until after the race.

“As soon as I finished racing, I think the adrenalin wears off a bit and my wrist started getting quite sore.

“You never want to come off the bike but unfortunately a lot of the girls were crashing, the course was quite wet and slippery.

“But it was the first race of the season and I felt like I swam really well and put myself in a good position on the bike.

“I made a few judgment errors here and there but overall, crash aside, I was fairly happy with how it was going to that point.”
