Great Britain powered to a second successive victory in the World under-20 Championships, beating Estonia 6-2 in Scotland..
Cardiff Fire’s Jordan Lawday was again the starting netminder for GB and he faced 27 shots at Dumfries Ice Bowl.
Estonia scored two powerplay goals, but could not find a way past Lawday 5v5.
GB had the better chances in the first period, but they fell behind on a five-on-three powerplay goal as Ed Slessarevski scored through traffic with a one-timer (9-12).
Sam Duggan, Liam Kirk, Josh Waller and Jordan Buesa all went close for GB, but Estonia netminder Christopher-Kullervoc Jogi made 13 saves in the first period.
Britain turned the game around with three goals in just over two and a half minutes.
They levelled the scores when Kirk skated in to score low on the powerplay at 24-11.
GB then netted twice in 15 seconds. Man of the match Edward Knaggs scored his first goal for the under-20s with a top-shelf blast from the blueline on the powerplay (26-33) and Buesa was denied on the wraparound but pounced on the loose puck to score on the short-side (26-48).
Duggan netted on the rebound at 44-00 with a calm finish past Jogi, while Shudra let rip from the blueline with the man advantage at 45-18.
Great stick work by Duggan saw him score his second of the night when he fired over the shoulder of Jogi (50-54) before Estonia pulled a goal back on the powerplay through Nikita Efremov following a goalmouth scramble at 52-41.
Head coach Slava Koulikov, said: “It was pleasing night and we have a lot to be happy about.
“We started slowly, but we came out so strong in the second period and that three-goal blitz won us the game.
“There were had contributions from all over the ice and we combined for some great goals.
“It has been a good start to the tournament, but there is a long way to go.”
Elsewhere on Monday, Korea beat Netherlands 5-4 and Japan defeated Romania 3-2 after overtime, which means GB are top of the table with six points from their first two games.
Tuesday is a rest day and GB return to action on Wednesday when they play the Netherlands (8pm).
Wednesday’s schedule: Romania v Estonia (1pm), Japan v Korea (4-30pm), Great Britain v Netherlands (8pm).
